PXG launches new Gen5 irons
PXG has today unveiled its new Gen5 irons, which arrive in three head shapes, as well as a driving iron option.
The irons feature a new proprietary core, XCOR2, and a Power Channel behind the face. The innovative new core results from a multi-year collaboration with material experts to develop a polymer specifically for PXG irons that is lighter and faster.
The Power Channel is designed to aid additional face loading at impact, increase the coefficient of restitution (COR) and transfer more energy back into the golf ball for faster ball speeds and more distance. Combined with the thinnest face in golf, the overall system aims to provide explosive performance and excellent soft feel.
The Gen5 irons also integrate Precision Weighting Technology, a sizeable adjustable weight located near the center-of-gravity (CG) on the back of the clubhead. This enables golfers to experience various head weight configurations quickly and easily during a fitting.
In addition, the all-new irons have a complex, five-times forged body geometry. Each clubhead is also CNC milled to create an exact, thin-walled, high-performance design.
The new irons from PXG are available in the following three head shapes
PXG 0311 XP irons: “Easy to hit, and provide formidable forgiveness and cannon like distance”
PXG 0311 P irons: “Introduce a sweet balance between forgiveness and playability”
PXG 0311 T irons:“Designed to put skilled golfers in total control of every shot”
PXG 0311 X driving iron: “Designed for golfers seeking maximum distance on tight fairways or in adverse conditions.”
PXG’s 0311 Gen5 irons are priced at $349 and are available in Chrome and an exclusive Xtreme Dark finish as part of a new Black Label Elite TM offering.
This week, we have our Tour Photographer, Greg Moore, on the ground at the OccuNet Classic at Tascosa Golf Club in Amarillo, Texas, for the 14th event of the 2026 Korn Ferry Tour season. With that, we see some great things in the Lead Tape Report as we roll into Amarillo.
Joel Thelen
Monday Qualifier, Joel Thelen is in the field this week. He has played on the Korn Ferry Tour for a full season in 2023, and he is back in action this week. A couple of clubs caught my eye this week in his bag.
First off: His trusted Titleist 816 H2 hybrid. This club came out in October of 2015, and it still remains strong in the bag. Also, take a look at this Odyssey White Hot OG 7, putting a capital S in the 7S model. This custom neck has some impressive lean for an arm-lock-style putter. The bottom of the putter is covered in tape for optimal weighting.
Mitchell Meissner
Taking a look at Mitchell Meissner’s bag this week, we have some great lead tape coverage. Top to bottom working from fairway metals, irons, and wedges. We can see on the short irons and wedges that there is tape at the base of the grip, adding a little counterbalance. Along with that, some tape on the short irons and wedges as well. Moving to his putter, he rolls the Odyssey 7 Bird putter. Meissner putts left-handed and strikes the ball right-handed.

They certainly are committed to the screw aesthetics on the club. From the beginning they have had that same style with the screws. Not sure why it hasn’t evolved much?

Eventually maybe they’ll get it right. Keep marking down the previous Gen and doing it again. But currently, everyone who leaves PXG wins one of their first events with new gear (Lydia Ko, CHIII, Billy Horschel). Zach Johnson should head that notion. Zach used to be in the top 20 each week with Titleist. Now Zach is world 220 and may lose his tour card.
Every 30 handicapper at my club plays PXG.

What has ever justified the price of these clubs? Even if price was no issue, why these over other clubs? I’ve never seen a material difference.

Another price complainer. If you don’t want to pay for them there are other options. There is a huge difference in quality especially with the 0311ST irons. Problem is almost nobody fits into that category.

Pretty rude.
I didn’t complain about price. I was talking about value. What justifies the huge difference? Is there a material advantage over others? The price, when brought into the conversation, magnifies the issue. It’s not the issue itself.
I recently paid a fitter about $250 a club for the iron set I use now. It’s not about the money.
I think this is about vanity, which makes it even worse. It means paying a higher price for the same performance as other clubs. It makes buyers into suckers.

You’ve seen only bad golfers play PXG? Is a +2 considered a good golfer in your bizarre view? PXG irons feel better than my Mizuno Tours. Best feeling irons I’ve hit.
Some people have a very strange reaction to PXG. Guess what? You don’t need to play PXG irons and I don’t have to play your irons. But the irons are excellent. The comment about only bad players play PXG is extremely stupid. I’ll let you in on a big secret: Most golfers aren’t very good. Regardless of the irons they play.

At 84, I’m a seasoned golfer. very seasoned, and have bought clubs for 70 years, including working in a golf store for a couple of years. Just bought their woods, and found the fitting process to be outstanding. The owner has turned the golf club business into a very different and stylish setting, and a quality golf club that is remarkable. In 5 years he’s now number 2 in retail sales, and it’s very understandable when you see the club price options and a fitting process that costs $50.00 smart dollar investment. Plus a putter choice that is really special. Well done, PXG.

You know the sales figures of a private company that doesn’t disclose sales figures? …..Of course you don’t, which means you made up the #2 in retail sales statement (likely closer to #7 behind Calloway, Taylormade, Ping, Titleist, Cobra & Mizuno). Ask anyone in connection with a competing OEM brand and you’ll notice no one is worried by PXG anymore. When they stated fitting folks over the phone for irons, the brand sold its soul for a quick dollar.
