2015 PGA Championship: Six things to know after Day 2
The second day at Whistling Straits saw a competitive course record, the arrival of pre-tournament favorites at the top of the leaderboard and some fairly cooperative weather (until around 5:30 local time, when play was interrupted). Despite the seriousness of the year’s final major, glory’s nearly last shot, there were even some lighter moments on survival day.
29-63
Hiroshi Iwata made people forget the moves made by Henrik Stenson and George Coetzee. Stenson got to 8-under par on the day before consecutive bogeys dropped him back. Coetzee also reached the ocho under figure until the sinister 18th hole dropped him to 65 and a top-five placement. Then came Hiroshi Iwata of Japan — 34 strokes out, 29 strokes in for 63. Ho-Hum, name in record books for low round in a major, course record at Straits, thank you very much. Oh, by the way, the 35-year-old pro is certainly not lacking in the confidence department, as evidenced by this admission: On the back nine, after number 13, I was thinking that I’m going to shoot 27.
SpiethWatch
Can’t wait for the whiners to start their skree of why is it always about Spieth? Get used to it, crabs. Jordan Spieth will be in the news for a long time, for precisely what he did today: six birdies for 67 and a top-three position as the weekend beckons. The only guy not outright cheering for him to win a third major in 2015 is this writer, since I used him up in Fantasy Golf a month ago. Jordy can even tell a joke, as evidenced by his answer to some wag’s inquiry on whether he and Rory get along: No, we hate each other, it’s very challenging to talk to him.

How does Lefty not get grass stains on his trousers after this one?

Perhaps he rinses them like JD did with his not-so-lucky iron?
Caddyshack Socks for Charity
I don’t pay $16 a pair for socks, but I might pony up for these socks.
The reasons are simple: St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital, like all hospitals, is a cause with supporting; socks are like a tattoo you can take off; Caddyshack changed my life when it was released. Look for these all weekend long at Straits.
The Club Pro Streak Is Over
Brian Gaffney followed up his 1-under with a 1-over and gets to play two more rounds for his efforts. It had been three years since a working stiff had survived the 36-hole cut, so all across the world, club pros everywhere are cheering and raising a glass to the Quaker Ridge head pro.
Dustin Johnson Needs a Bones
The more I watch Dustin Johnson make mistake after mistake, the easier it is to convince me that he needs a caddy that he respects, to whom he’ll listen. His uber-quick play on certain holes is totally out of sorts with his laid-back attitude. Johnson’s shot selections on short approaches and recoveries are also suspect, so perhaps he needs a wedge coach, too. I can’t imagine there’s another golfer who hits more approach wedges than DJ, and makes bogey in the process.

GolfWRX’s Father’s Day Gift Guide (2026)
A reminder from your friends at GolfWRX: Father’s Day is June 21. And as we do every year, we’re rounding up the best gifts for dad.
As we say every year, there’s no better golf-related Father’s Day gift than a round of golf with pops. Be it a country club or your favorite muni, take the time to get together to play 18 if you can.
Let’s get to the gifts.
Ghost Golf Qualifier Diamond Polo

We like the new polos that Ghost is offering, as the fabric and fit are so good. These new Qualifier Collection polos breathe well, are lightweight, stretch with your swing, and of course look great. You can wear them on the course, in the office, or just out at a casual event and they will fit right in.
STR8-Strip Grip Tape Remover

If your dad is an equipment aficionado and tinkers with his clubs, this tool works wonders. Removing grip tape has never been easier, just put a little head on the tape and the STR8-Strip peals it right off the shaft without any damage.
Why Golf: Putting Thing

When it comes to practice, it is good to have a purpose. This “Putting Thing” sure does it. We know from personal experience how challenging it can be and how rewarding it is on the practice green. This also provides some competition for your kiddo to see who will unload the dishwasher or do the next chore around the house.
OluKai Lae‘ahi Men’s Breathable Slip-On Shoes

Riding to and from the course in style and comfort is always a good thing. If you’re in a hurry, it’s a nice feature to slide into your shoes and get to the tee time. For the post-game shoe, at your locker or while putting your clubs away in the car. Nice to slide into a shoe that looks good anywhere. Pair that with meeting the family for dinner, no need to change!
Therabody Theragun Relief

A little wellness goes a long way. Keeping loose is a good way to go when it comes to the weekend game or treatment during the week. If there is a little ache or pain, the Theragun is there to help out. Help loosen up the back for a pre-game warm-up or cool-down.
World Cup golf apparel

Something for the soccer dads. Embrace the World Cup fever this summer on the course with custom gear to support the nation of your choice.
FootJoy Pro SL spikeless golf shoes

Give the old man a break and save his feet with the Footjoy Pro SL Men’s Spikeless Golf Shoes for some added comfort on the course.
Bushnell Wingman 2 GPS speaker

Combine all the hits as well as some game improvement with the Wingman 2 Golf GPS Speaker by getting audible distance readings from 38,000+ courses worldwide through the Wingman 2 remote or speaker.
Personalized Titleist Pro V1 golf balls

The No. 1 ball in golf is a safe bet, and the Pro V1 fits the largest chunk of the bell curve if you don’t know what ball pops plays. Add personalization for a, well, personal touch!

With the PGA Tour across the border in Canada this week, GolfWRX Tour Photographer Greg Moore stayed stateside and headed to the OccuNet Classic presented by Amarillo National Bank in Amarillo, Texas.
It’s always interesting to see what the guys are playing on the KFT, and this week certainly hasn’t disappointed so far, with some incredible wedge stamping on display.

Tiger really needs to go back to Butch and Stevie. Nike could pay Butch $4 million a year and Stevie $3 million. It might help Tiger make a few cuts.

I could go on(gulbis) but what’s the point

Yeah stick a fork in Eldrick. He will probably slip to #300 in the world by next week. It’s over.

Ever heard of pope Julius II?
Nope, me neither…but that’s the guy who told michaelangelo to paint jeebus stuff in the Sistine chapel….
I can’t think of a more applicable analogy…

Could Pope J read greens like Stevie? Stick a fork in Tiger unless he goes back to Butch and Stevie. No one wants to buy golf gear and clothes from an older journeyman ranked 280 + in the world. Rory is not getting it done either. Under Armour is taken lots of biz away from Nike and Phil Jeebus Knight.

I heard them mention on “the App” yesterday that his brother caddies for him. I’m certain it works on some level, but when it’s crunch time, can his brother back DJ off a club and tell him what’s what? I haven’t seen it yet and don’t know that we will.

He has caddied for him for a while. DJ has gone through a handful of caddies, but it’s not because of him. Joe LaCava left him for Tiger, then he had a TaylorMade VP pick up the bag for a little bit, then his brother came along. Pretty much been carrying for him ever since. Personally, I think your brother would be more straight with you than anybody else.

Good observations. Hard to disagree with any of them.

Totally agree on DJ. Take a good coach, take a renowned caddy, and win Majors !!
