Experience Prevails: Haas wins the AT&T National
With a packed leaderboard entering Sunday’s final round at the AT&T National, most players were looking to cash in on a signature win at Congressional Country Club, but veteran experience rose to the top as Bill Haas’ 5-under 66 in the final round led to a fifth career PGA Tour title.
Haas posted a 12-under, 268 tournament total en route to a three-stroke victory over Roberto Castro, matching the tournament’s largest margin of victory in its seven years of competition. He was the only player to record four rounds under par for the week.

A five-way tie at 7-under par appeared to set the tournament up for a stunning finish. However, a trio of birdies on holes Nos. 8 though 10 earned Haas a two-shot lead over Roberto Castro, and two additional birdies on the inward nine cemented a three-shot victory for Haas.
With the win, Haas becomes just the fourth player to win on Tour in each of the last four years, joining Phil Mickelson, Dustin Johnson and Justin Rose. Additionally, Haas recorded his seventh top-10 finish for 2013, tying Billy Horschel for the most of the season.
The win comes during an odd stretch. It includes three missed cuts at The Players Championship, Wells Fargo Championship and U.S. Open, a T-4 finish at Memorial and now a win in his last five official events.
Castro’s second-place finish is the best of his Tour career, with his previous best being a seventh-place finish at the 2012 Greenbrier Classic. After beginning the day tied for the 54-hole lead, Castro bogeyed the first hole and could only convert three birdies during his round for a 2-under 69. One of those came on the par-4 No. 14, but it only allowed him to keep pace with Haas, who also birdied the hole.
Haas then stuck an approach shot on the par-5 No. 16, and the tap-in birdie extended his lead to three strokes with just two holes to play.
D.H. Lee turned in the round of the day, and was an early clubhouse leader after posting 8-under for the tournament. Lee shot a 7-under 64 Sunday, which included a string of five-straight birdies on the opening nine (Nos. 4 through 8). His T-3 finish is the best of his Tour career. The 64 matched the tournament’s low round, which Patrick Reed posted on Friday.

One of the five tied for the lead at 7-under, Jason Kokrak, improved by just one more stroke and finished T-3 with Lee.
Stewart Cink fired a final-round 67 and jumped six spots on the day to grab fifth place, his best finish in an official Tour stroke play event since his 2009 British Open victory.
While 19-year old Justin Spieth’s bid to be the first teenage winner on Tour in more than 80 years came up short, he once again posted a quick start at Congressional by going eagle-par-birdie on the opening three holes and was launched into a tie for the lead at 7-under. He played his final 15 holes in 1-over, carding a final-round 69, earning a sixth place finish and his fifth top-10 finish of the season.
Andres Romero was also part of the five-way tie at 7-under, but four bogies during his final 10 holes led to a final round 75 and a T-13 finish.
The Tour now moves to White Sulpher Springs, W. Va., for the fourth playing of the Greenbrier Classic.
