Jordan Holley: My quest for a Tour card

Published

on

By Jordan Holley

Special to GolfWRX

Jordan Holley, 28, is a mini-tour player pursuing his dream of earning a PGA Tour card. He graduated from Lynn University in Boca Raton, Fla., where he was an NCAA All-American and a member of the Cleveland Golf Academic All-American First Team. He qualified for the U.S. Amateur in 2008, and since turning professional has played on the NGA Hooters and eGolf tours, as well as other minor league tours.

Have you ever had a putt to win your match on the last hole and canned it even when you doubted yourself? To me, that’s what competition and the game of golf is all about. The most difficult aspect of golf that athletes encounter in competition are the six inches between the ears. Controlling your emotions and overcoming the fear of failure are the first steps in improving both on and off the playing field. The elation that success provides is found in no purer form than on the course. You have no teammates and everyone is playing against you … what have you got inside you?

My name is Jordan Holley and I am on my own personal road towards the PGA Tour. Just a little bit about myself … I was born in Texas and grew up in North Carolina playing every sport BUT golf. I was a good athlete when I was growing up, but knew the chances of playing professional football, basketball or baseball were slim. But then I found golf. I played golf my last three years of high school and eventually found my way to a small junior college in Wilmington, NC, by the name of Cape Fear Community College. It was there that I met a man (our head coach) who would eventually change my entire mindset on how golf is to be played.

If I could paint a picture of a hard-nosed, gritty, witty man, he would fit it to a “t”. His anecdotes of women, bar fights, heartbreak, and triumph were both hillarious and filled with valuable lessons. He would tell us to take advantage of our opportunities and pull in the reigns when things werent going your way. His love for the game rubbed off on all of us and he did not allow excuses.

Golf is not a sport to play with any fear, reservations, or self doubt. It is to be played with well timed aggression and a sense of the bigger picture. Each shot doesn’t determine anything but where the next shot is to be played from. You can’t control anything after the swing is made. You can only control the process.

My own personal journey through the ranks of the mini-tours has not been easy but we will get to that next time … you can follow my progress on GolfWRX, as well as on Twitter — @J_Holley6under — and at www.jordanholleygolf.com as my team and I embark on a 2012 season I’m sure will be filled with humor, roadtrips, mistakes, progress, and plenty of lessons!

GolfWRX’s Father’s Day Gift Guide (2026)

Published

on

A reminder from your friends at GolfWRX: Father’s Day is June 21. And as we do every year, we’re rounding up the best gifts for dad.

As we say every year, there’s no better golf-related Father’s Day gift than a round of golf with pops. Be it a country club or your favorite muni, take the time to get together to play 18 if you can.

Let’s get to the gifts.

Ghost Golf Qualifier Diamond Polo

We like the new polos that Ghost is offering, as the fabric and fit are so good. These new Qualifier Collection polos breathe well, are lightweight, stretch with your swing, and of course look great. You can wear them on the course, in the office, or just out at a casual event and they will fit right in.

Why Golf: Putting Thing

When it comes to practice, it is good to have a purpose. This “Putting Thing” sure does it. We know from personal experience how challenging it can be and how rewarding it is on the practice green. This also provides some competition for your kiddo to see who will unload the dishwasher or do the next chore around the house.

OluKai Lae‘ahi Men’s Breathable Slip-On Shoes

Riding to and from the course in style and comfort is always a good thing. If you’re in a hurry, it’s a nice feature to slide into your shoes and get to the tee time. For the post-game shoe, at your locker or while putting your clubs away in the car. Nice to slide into a shoe that looks good anywhere. Pair that with meeting the family for dinner, no need to change!

With the PGA Tour across the border in Canada this week, GolfWRX Tour Photographer Greg Moore stayed stateside and headed to the OccuNet Classic presented by Amarillo National Bank in Amarillo, Texas.

It’s always interesting to see what the guys are playing on the KFT, and this week certainly hasn’t disappointed so far, with some incredible wedge stamping on display.

At GolfWRX, we are a community of like-minded individuals who all experience and express our enjoyment of the game in many ways.

It’s that sense of community that drives day-to-day interactions in the forums on topics that range from best driver to what marker you use to mark your ball. It even allows us to share another thing we all love – buying and selling equipment.

Currently, in our GolfWRX buy/sell/trade (BST) forum, @HuskerFlyer is sharing a Scotty Cameron GOLO with a BGT Stability Tour2 2022 M Edition shaft. While the putter is certainly enviable, the Augusta-inspired shaft is equally noteworthy.
