My Take: These unique Augusta-inspired treasures on Etsy are worth checking out

Published

on

Man, there’s just something about April in Augusta that gets me every time. The way those azaleas pop against the Georgia sky, how the morning dew catches sunlight on those ridiculous fairways, and watching the best in the world duke it out for that green jacket. I’ve been hooked on The Masters since I was a kid, and next week, we get to do it all over again.

I’ve been lucky enough to hit Augusta National almost every year since 2010 (missed just two tournaments) – definitely the best perk of my PGA membership. Nothing compares to actually walking those grounds. The TV doesn’t do justice to Amen Corner. Those pines are MASSIVE in person. And don’t get me started on those $1.50 pimento cheese and egg salad sandwiches that somehow taste better than anything you could get elsewhere.

For fellow Masters junkies who can’t get enough, I’ve been scouring Etsy and found some pretty awesome handmade stuff that brings a little Augusta magic home. These aren’t your typical cheesy souvenirs – these creators really get what makes the tournament special.

SunshineSignz: Custom Masters Leaderboard

My collection started with this ridiculous custom leaderboard from Kathleen White’s shop. It’s this massive 45×24 beauty that dominates my office wall. It is worth every penny – the detail is insane, and everyone who comes over immediately gravitates to it.

Working with Kathleen was awesome because she’s clearly as obsessed with getting the details right as I am. The green and white just nails that Augusta vibe. Sometimes, I find myself staring at it during work calls, mentally replaying Sunday charges I’ve witnessed in person. My wife thinks I’m nuts, but whatever.

EliteDesignGroup: Masters-Inspired Wood Signs

Kevin Krone’s shop is another gold mine for Masters stuff. I reached out, and he told me, “I got into this completely by accident. My background’s actually in graphic design. Last year, I bought this laser cutting machine without any real plans. Since I’m golf-obsessed, I just started messing around with some Masters designs.”

He started with just one design, but customers kept asking for more: “People wanted ‘Hello Friends’ signs, ‘The Clubhouse,’ ‘Amen Corner,’ and then all these custom family names—the Mustermans, the Johnsons, you name it. It started as a hobby, but the 5-star reviews keep rolling in, so I guess I’m doing something right!”

May include: A framed sign with a green and yellow outline of the United States with a red flag and golf club on top. The sign reads 'HELLO FRIENDS' in green letters.

Edward Rowan: Hand-Drawn Masters Map

If you’re into the artsy side of things, you’ve gotta check out Edward Rowan’s hand-drawn map. The guy must have spent hundreds of hours on this thing – every bunker, every dogleg, every subtle break is exactly where it should be.

The little touches Edward meticulously includes are what Masters diehards appreciate – like how he perfectly captures the history of Augusta National’s hallowed grounds right down to a nod to Dr. Alister MacKenzie, who, along with Bobby Jones, created this legendary golf paradise. This piece will soon hang across from my desk, where I can marvel at its details every time I look at it.

TinyGiantGolf: Augusta-Themed Outdoor Rug

Here’s something different—TinyGiantGolf makes this outdoor rug with the Augusta National layout. I’m getting one of these beauties for my pool deck and home golf studio area.

Now, even my non-golfing wife, who recognizes holes from watching the tournament on TV, can walk around “Amen Corner” while her hubby is hundreds of miles away actually doing that each spring in April.

This Etsy store also sells several other cool Masters and Augusta National items. It’s worth checking it out!

Anchor and Glass Wood Designs: 3D Laser-Cut Augusta Map

May include: A framed wooden map of the Augusta National Golf Club. The map is made of wood and features a green golf course with blue water features. The frame is brown wood and has a glass front. The text on the map reads 'Established: 1933', 'Length: 7,445 Yards', 'Par: 72', 'Holes: 18', 'Architect: Alister Mackenzie', 'Augusta National Golf Club', and 'Augusta, Georgia'. A compass is in the top right corner of the map.

This last piece will be an absolute gem to add to my collection: this 3D wood map from Jen at Anchor and Glass Wood Designs. The layers in this fantastic piece of art create an incredible depth that captures those famous Augusta elevation changes.

As we get ready for another Masters week (which my family knows means I’m basically unavailable for seven straight days), these handcrafted pieces help feed the obsession year-round. Each one comes from someone who clearly loves this tournament as much as we do – and that’s what makes them special.

AVL: My U.S. Amateur local qualifying experience

Published

on

This past Monday, I played in the U.S. Amateur local qualifier at Rock Creek Country Club in Portland, Oregon. A full tee sheet from 7:30 a.m. to 1:55 p.m., the top 11 scores would make it to the U.S. Amateur final qualifying.

I teed off at 10:48 a.m.. With the 7:30 am tee time, you can get a feel for the leaders’ pace, and they were off and running on the challenging setup at Rock Creek.

Getting to the highlight of the round on the par five 17th, a drive up the left side and 212 yards left to the front hole location. I took out a 5-iron with plans of middle of the green. The ball ended up 8 feet left of the hole, pin high. A slight downhill putt dropped in for an eagle 3 on the 17th. With the cut line looking to be anywhere from -2 to even par. This was the boost I had been waiting for all day.

With making par from the trees on 18, it was time to wait for a potential playoff with a posted score of one under par 71.

Three hours later, it was playoff time. 8 players for 6 spots. I made par on the playoff hole, which was good enough to advance to the U.S. Amateur final qualifying in July. USGA qualifiers sure deliver on all of the emotions in golf!
