Sean O’Hair Captures Quail Hollow Championship
Sean O’Hair didn’t make a putt over 10 feet all week, and he didn’t need to in adding that nifty plate in the picture to his trophy case. If you hit the ball closer to the hole more often than anyone else the only putts you have to make are those from 10 feet and less. Do it for four days and you beat the rest of the guys, swelling the bank account appreciably.
With a final round 69 Mr. O’Hair came from 3 shots back to win by a shot over Lucas Glover (71) and Bubba Watson (70). Tiger Woods finished two shots back after finishing with 10 straight pars, including a three putt from 25ft on the par 4 14th hole, and a round of 72. Quite a different ending from the last time Mr. O’Hair had an opportunity to win a tournament. At Bay Hill he had a 5 shot lead on Sunday and frittered it away allowing Mr. Woods to win that event. Not today. “Losing (stunk) at Bay Hill,” O’Hair said. “Even though it’s tough to lose like that, to lose a five-shot lead against Tiger, you still learn from it. I talked to my coach. I talked to my caddie, Paul (Tesori). And we just all said all I have to do is keep putting myself in those situations, and at some point I’m going to learn how to win. It’s just nice to win as quickly as I did after Bay Hill.”
For his part Mr. Woods began the tournament with a seven under par 65, indicating his game might well and truly be back after his lengthy injury caused layoff. He played the remaining three rounds in a pedestrian two under par spawning discussions that the field has closed the gap between himself and them. Don’t go holding your breathe over that one now. You’ll only turn purple and tip over. His game is not back to his normal exacting standards, nor to our normal superhuman expectations. Wait. It’ll come. Sooner rather than later.
But I digress. It was an enjoyable afternoon watching Messrs. O’Hair, Glover, and Watson go toe to toe over the final 9 holes. How can you not enjoy watching Jerry "Bubba" Watson hit the ball miles and miles into places on the fairway where the only divot marks are from guys who had to hit recovery shots to get too? And work the ball, I can’t remember seeing anyone work the ball around the course this much since Corey Pavin was in his prime. Of course Mr. Watson hits one tee shot to places Mr. Pavin reached in two. Who hits an iron on a 456yd par 4? I really hope he wins a tournament soon as I laugh maniacally watching him play.
Probably the best example of his ball striking occurred on the 16th hole Sunday. The start of the "Green Mile" the final three hole stretch that, had Messrs Watson and Glover played in even par, would have produced a playoff. Mr. O’Hair ripped a drive then hit an 8 iron into a stiff breeze to 8 feet and made the birdie. “I just hit it as hard as I could and tried to flight it,” O’Hair said, “and hit really a perfect golf shot.”
With this win Mr.O’Hair joins some rarefied company, joining Adam Scott and Sergio Garcia as the 20 somethings with three or more wins. He’s moved to number 12 in the world rankings and fourth place in the President’s Cup standings. Good for him. May he win many more in the very near future.

A reminder from your friends at GolfWRX: Father’s Day is June 21. And as we do every year, we’re rounding up the best gifts for dad.

We like the new polos that Ghost is offering, as the fabric and fit are so good. These new Qualifier Collection polos breathe well, are lightweight, stretch with your swing, and of course look great. You can wear them on the course, in the office, or just out at a casual event and they will fit right in.

If your dad is an equipment aficionado and tinkers with his clubs, this tool works wonders. Removing grip tape has never been easier, just put a little head on the tape and the STR8-Strip peals it right off the shaft without any damage.
Why Golf: Putting Thing

When it comes to practice, it is good to have a purpose. This “Putting Thing” sure does it. We know from personal experience how challenging it can be and how rewarding it is on the practice green. This also provides some competition for your kiddo to see who will unload the dishwasher or do the next chore around the house.
OluKai Lae‘ahi Men’s Breathable Slip-On Shoes

Riding to and from the course in style and comfort is always a good thing. If you’re in a hurry, it’s a nice feature to slide into your shoes and get to the tee time. For the post-game shoe, at your locker or while putting your clubs away in the car. Nice to slide into a shoe that looks good anywhere. Pair that with meeting the family for dinner, no need to change!

With the PGA Tour across the border in Canada this week, GolfWRX Tour Photographer Greg Moore stayed stateside and headed to the OccuNet Classic presented by Amarillo National Bank in Amarillo, Texas.
It’s always interesting to see what the guys are playing on the KFT, and this week certainly hasn’t disappointed so far, with some incredible wedge stamping on display.
