Upright putter experiment — GolfWRXers discuss

Published

on

In our forums, one user is strategizing ways to improve their putter while the rest of their game coalesces, inquiring about any fellow forum members who use an upright putter.

@jarediogolf wrote:

“Curious to see who is using upright lie angle putters?

“Swing is in a better place these days. Hitting more greens which has really been shining a light on how bad my putting is.

“I’m cross dominant and have a really hard time standing over putts and seeing where i’m aiming.

“Two ball putter alignment helps but still hard to see the line.

“I bent the two ball blade more upright and suddenly I feel like I know where the putter is pointing and the stroke feels more straight back and through.

“Bending upright took it from face balanced to slight toe hang which I also like.”

Our members in the forum offered up their thoughts on bending a putter to have an upright lie angle. Here are a few posts from the thread, but make sure to check out the entire discussion and have your say at the link below.

  • @cl001: “Also cross dominant, I play 72° lie on my putter but have been fit to as upright as 75° in the past. I play my irons/wedges 2° upright too though so the 72 isn’t super out of line with the rest of my clubs.”
  • @CLEVELAND59: “This is where a good putter fitting really shows its value. A large number of players play with a lie angle that is too flat and a putter which is too long, which in order for the putter to sole correctly results in them playing the ball outside their eye line and for the arms to be significantly extended away from the body in an unnatural way.”
  • @LeftBrain: “Right handed and left eye dominant here. I bent my 2 ball armlock from 72 lie to 77 and its the best thing I could’ve done. Being an armlock putter its really important to have the shaft vertical and more in line with my left arm. could’ve went 79 to push the limits but I’d have to stand a little bit closer to the ball, almost hitting my right shoe with the putter on the way back. 77 is the perfect median.”

Published

At GolfWRX, we are a community of like-minded individuals who all experience and express our enjoyment of the game in many ways.

It’s that sense of community that drives day-to-day interactions in the forums on topics that range from best driver to what marker you use to mark your ball. It even allows us to share another thing we all love – buying and selling equipment.

Currently, in our GolfWRX buy/sell/trade (BST) forum, @SBH9458 is selling a brand new Qi4D Tour 5-wood at 18 degrees, which is being offered at a price less than retail. The item is unused and comes with the stock shaft and headcover.

From the listing:

New and unhit. Bought it new myself and my plan was to turn it down to 16.5°, but I won’t be able to play it. Save a ton over buying off the rack. Stock 75X Reax shaft and Headcover included. $375 shipped conus. No trades needed.

Head to the thread here for plenty of more details about the item. If you are curious about the rules to participate in the BST Forum, you can learn more here: GolfWRX BST Rules.
