Lead Tape Report: The silver stuff abounds coast to coast

Published

on

The PGA Tour moves on to Florida for the next segment of events. Before we move on to this Sunday to see who is crowned champion, let’s take a look at a few bags involving some lead tape from the last couple of weeks.

Si Woo Kim – Riviera

When it comes to wedges, if you have a raw finish, a hand-stamped personal touch, and some lead tape, I’m paying attention. Si Woo Kim demonstrates this on this current set of wedges. A nice little tribute to a press conference moment at the President’s Cup a few years ago. Some added swing weight on the lob wedge, which is a nice addition for the touch shots around the green and feeling the club head from the fairway.

Tony Finau – Riviera

Finau demonstrates here that his clubs are battle-tested and not leaving the bag, but shows he is open to testing new clubs with the addition of the prototype mini-driver.

Haotong Li – Riviera

Another lob wedge, but it makes sense. It all depends on a player’s feel, but with shorter clubs, traditionally, a player would like to feel the clubhead more. This lead tape placement looks like it’s designed to help with lower-launching, more-spin type shot options. Something you see the guys on television hit from 75 yards and in off the tight surfaces.

Ryan Fox – Riviera

Ryan Fox does not have much tape on his woods or wedges, but he does on his irons. You can see the tape has melded on the surface, becoming one with the club. Fox covers all levels of playing surfaces across the globe, so it’s cool to see what he plays to make an international set and mystery he is on the leaderboard.

Joel Dahmen – Cognizant

Square to Square is a new technology, but an old friend to help with a new feel. Just a little bit of tape will do here for Joel Dahmen. Another cool thing to see here with the custom paint fill for this putter with reference to his alma mater at the University of Washington. Custom paint is always a nice touch, like custom-stamped wedges!

Justin Hicks – Cognizant

Former PGA Tour player and now PGA Member Justin Hicks is in the field this week at Cognizant. You hear players talk about wanting to hit fades with the driver and turn the ball over for a draw with a fairway metal, we can see that with the lead tape on the heel on his woods he would like favoring turning the ball over when those are in hand.

Slab city on the Korn Ferry Tour — Lead Tape Report

Published

on

This week, we have our Tour Photographer, Greg Moore, on the ground at the OccuNet Classic at Tascosa Golf Club in Amarillo, Texas, for the 14th event of the 2026 Korn Ferry Tour season. With that, we see some great things in the Lead Tape Report as we roll into Amarillo.

Joel Thelen

Monday Qualifier, Joel Thelen is in the field this week. He has played on the Korn Ferry Tour for a full season in 2023, and he is back in action this week. A couple of clubs caught my eye this week in his bag.

First off: His trusted Titleist 816 H2 hybrid. This club came out in October of 2015, and it still remains strong in the bag. Also, take a look at this Odyssey White Hot OG 7, putting a capital S in the 7S model. This custom neck has some impressive lean for an arm-lock-style putter. The bottom of the putter is covered in tape for optimal weighting.

Mitchell Meissner

Taking a look at Mitchell Meissner’s bag this week, we have some great lead tape coverage. Top to bottom working from fairway metals, irons, and wedges. We can see on the short irons and wedges that there is tape at the base of the grip, adding a little counterbalance. Along with that, some tape on the short irons and wedges as well. Moving to his putter, he rolls the Odyssey 7 Bird putter. Meissner putts left-handed and strikes the ball right-handed.

  • macedan: “Started with a hand-me-down Golden Bear set from my brother when I was in high school, never really played more than once a year or got into the game until about summer of 2017. First purchased a set of Cleveland CG4’s (I actually really miss this set sometimes, soft & not terribly large for a GI iron), moved into Nike Vapor Fly’s by the end of the year. Those lasted until spring of 18 when I decided I wanted new, so I traded them in for TM Rbladez. Honestly, although I liked the Rbladez, poor decision on my part, I think this was really about the only time so far that after a week or two I was kicking myself for not staying with what I had. Rbladez stayed with me until late last summer when I switched to P790’s and (knock on wood) I am hoping this will be my longest lasting set.”
  • JimmyC59: “MacGregor Jack Nicklaus Triple Crown. Palmer The Standard. Still play these.”
  • jgrzask: “Tommy Armour 845u
    Mizuno MP-32
    Mizuno MP-33 (2 sets)

    Srixon i-302 (2 sets) – still own
