Golf gifts for the value seeker
The holidays are upon us again, GolfWRX members, so let the daydreaming begin, as we fill our lists with the golf gear we want this season.
As is true every year, the gifts in the Holiday Gift Guide ideas will suit any budget, and each item was hand-picked by our staff.
We’re again presenting our guide as a series as we did in years past, targeting, throughout the week, “the purist,” “the gearhead,” “the value seeker,” “the golfer looking to improve,” “the stylish golfer,” and “the big spender.”
You know the value seeker by his/her eschewing anything that will put a significant dent into the wallet while still getting the most from their game, this includes equipment, practice tools, or anything else you might find filling out a golf bag – maybe even the golf bag itself.
Here are our best recommendations for the value seeker in your life.
Bushnell Launch Pro

A tremendous value in this launch monitor tier, which the value seeker will surely appreciate! Using three cameras for accurate ball and club data indoors or out, for golfers who have limited space indoors, this monitor fits perfectly. Not only will gearheads like the accurate data for comparing clubs, but you can simulate rounds as well for added fun. The Launch Pro will also connect to Bushnell Link-Enabled range finders, so you can use your club distances on the course for more accurate club selection.
Price: $2,499.99
Shot Scope Pro ZR

The build quality alone is worth more than the price of the Pro ZR, but this rangefinder packs a lot of accuracy and features for that price. You get pin lock on, a choice of optics colors, and a magnet for the cart for under $200. The Pro ZR also has a 1,500-yard hard range, 6X magnification, and works with the Shot Scope GPS app for even more course planning.
Price: $190
PXG Xtreme Tour, Xtreme Tour X golf balls

Everyone wants a golf ball that performs like the highest tour ball but costs much less. PXG’s first Xtreme golf balls were a solid entry, but they took all that knowledge, added some more, and released the Xtreme Tour and Xtreme Tour X balls that perform even better. Long off the tee and with irons, while still providing great spin and control around the green. We found the feel is soft on both the lower-spin Xtreme and the higher-spin Xtreme X.
Price: $34.99
Takomo 101 irons

“Come for the price, stay for the performance” isn’t the Takomo Golf slogan, but it could be. The company’s 101 iron features a ton of tech in a compact look at an incredible price. As Takomo says, “It’s long. It’s straight. The game-improvement iron that looks like a blade.”
Price: $489 (4-PW)
Titleist TSR2 driver

The previous generation of this Titleist driver is still an excellent performer and is available for a great price at 2nd Swing. One of the top sellers in the pre-owned driver category and a top performer in our Members Choice and Best Driver lists.
From: $359.99
TaylorMade Stealth irons

OK. A value seeker is almost never going to play a current-gen product. Just not in his/her DNA. And if you buy a value seeker a current-gen product, they will probably tell you that you spent too much and act grinchy. Thus, it’s better to find a great value on a prior year product, like 2nd Swing’s iron recommendation: TaylorMade Stealth irons.

Slab city on the Korn Ferry Tour — Lead Tape Report
This week, we have our Tour Photographer, Greg Moore, on the ground at the OccuNet Classic at Tascosa Golf Club in Amarillo, Texas, for the 14th event of the 2026 Korn Ferry Tour season. With that, we see some great things in the Lead Tape Report as we roll into Amarillo.
Joel Thelen
Monday Qualifier, Joel Thelen is in the field this week. He has played on the Korn Ferry Tour for a full season in 2023, and he is back in action this week. A couple of clubs caught my eye this week in his bag.
First off: His trusted Titleist 816 H2 hybrid. This club came out in October of 2015, and it still remains strong in the bag. Also, take a look at this Odyssey White Hot OG 7, putting a capital S in the 7S model. This custom neck has some impressive lean for an arm-lock-style putter. The bottom of the putter is covered in tape for optimal weighting.

Mitchell Meissner
Taking a look at Mitchell Meissner’s bag this week, we have some great lead tape coverage. Top to bottom working from fairway metals, irons, and wedges. We can see on the short irons and wedges that there is tape at the base of the grip, adding a little counterbalance. Along with that, some tape on the short irons and wedges as well. Moving to his putter, he rolls the Odyssey 7 Bird putter. Meissner putts left-handed and strikes the ball right-handed.

- macedan: “Started with a hand-me-down Golden Bear set from my brother when I was in high school, never really played more than once a year or got into the game until about summer of 2017. First purchased a set of Cleveland CG4’s (I actually really miss this set sometimes, soft & not terribly large for a GI iron), moved into Nike Vapor Fly’s by the end of the year. Those lasted until spring of 18 when I decided I wanted new, so I traded them in for TM Rbladez. Honestly, although I liked the Rbladez, poor decision on my part, I think this was really about the only time so far that after a week or two I was kicking myself for not staying with what I had. Rbladez stayed with me until late last summer when I switched to P790’s and (knock on wood) I am hoping this will be my longest lasting set.”
- JimmyC59: “MacGregor Jack Nicklaus Triple Crown. Palmer The Standard. Still play these.”
- jgrzask: “Tommy Armour 845u
