New PXG Lightning drivers hit the USGA conforming list

PXG made a big jump with the current Black Ops woods, and they are easily the best-performing line the company has released so far. But we are golfers and always looking for a new and improved club to help us play our best.

A recent browsing on the USGA conforming site shows us that the engineers at PXG have been hard at work on some new drivers. Now, PXG isn’t saying anything yet on these Lightning products, but we can guess that all, some, or versions of these will be coming to us at retail in the future.

PXG Lightning Tour

This model looks to have a slightly more compact look from the face to the back of the driver compared to the others. Now these are just photos, so it is hard to see exactly what is going on, but it is a pretty safe guess. I would think that this will be the lower-launching and lower-spinning head in the Lightning line for players who need to control spin and launch. I am a little shocked it looks so similar to the other models in the line.

PXG Lightning Tour Mid

This one has an interesting name, Tour Mid, as it can be taken a few different ways. It has the same sole weights as the other drivers but looks to be a touch more stretched out compared to the Tour. I wonder if this will be the “bread and butter” driver of the group, or if this is something more like a Callaway Elyte Triple Diamond Max, where it combines lower spin and forgiveness. Judging by the 8-degree head in the photo, I think it will be the more tour-inspired option.

PXG Lightning Max 10K

Max forgiveness is the name of the game for PXG’s first officially named 10K MOI driver. Black Ops could be set up as a 10K driver if you got the head weight up, but this Lightning model looks to be that way right out of the box. The large carbon fiber plate on the sole, and presumably on the crown, should allow a significant amount of head weight to be pushed out to the perimeter, providing stability. Looking at the rest of the lineup, this could be the “core” model that is meant to fit the broadest range of golfers.

PXG Lightning Max Lite

The biggest change from the sole look is the lack of weights up near the face. Black Ops had its lightweight option, and this looks to continue on as a new version. The head will likely result in a significant weight reduction, suitable for use in a longer build or with a lighter shaft, to promote maximum ball speed and launch. We can’t see the back of the club, but I would bet there is a weight or two back there for some adjustment ability.

Slab city on the Korn Ferry Tour — Lead Tape Report

This week, we have our Tour Photographer, Greg Moore, on the ground at the OccuNet Classic at Tascosa Golf Club in Amarillo, Texas, for the 14th event of the 2026 Korn Ferry Tour season. With that, we see some great things in the Lead Tape Report as we roll into Amarillo.

Joel Thelen

Monday Qualifier, Joel Thelen is in the field this week. He has played on the Korn Ferry Tour for a full season in 2023, and he is back in action this week. A couple of clubs caught my eye this week in his bag.

First off: His trusted Titleist 816 H2 hybrid. This club came out in October of 2015, and it still remains strong in the bag. Also, take a look at this Odyssey White Hot OG 7, putting a capital S in the 7S model. This custom neck has some impressive lean for an arm-lock-style putter. The bottom of the putter is covered in tape for optimal weighting.

Mitchell Meissner

Taking a look at Mitchell Meissner’s bag this week, we have some great lead tape coverage. Top to bottom working from fairway metals, irons, and wedges. We can see on the short irons and wedges that there is tape at the base of the grip, adding a little counterbalance. Along with that, some tape on the short irons and wedges as well. Moving to his putter, he rolls the Odyssey 7 Bird putter. Meissner putts left-handed and strikes the ball right-handed.
