TaylorMade keeps mini driver, nostalgia trains rolling with R7 Quad Mini Driver
Once again, TaylorMade Golf is turning back the clock — while keeping a firm grip on one of golf equipment’s hottest trends. Today, the company has officially launched the R7 Quad Mini Driver, a modern reimagining of one of the most beloved clubs in its storied lineup: the R7 and R7 SuperQuad. For golfers of a certain age, the 2004 R7, with its Movable Weight Technology, was an aesthetic and performance king that still stirs the heart strings.

As with its 300 and BRNR Mini Driver Copper (TaylorMade BRNR Mini Driver Copper: Leveraging 90s nostalgia), TaylorMade again honors the past while delivering the tech and performance today’s golfers demand.
“The R7 Quad Mini Driver is one of those projects that got everyone excited from the initial concept, and being able to bring back one of the most iconic clubs in TaylorMade history (R7 Driver) was a dream come true. We couldn’t be more excited to continue setting the pace in the Mini Driver category.” – Chandler Carr, TaylorMade Product Manager, Product Creation

R7 Quad Mini Driver: Key technology
Built on the legacy of the original 2004 R7 driver — winner of over 30 professional events, including the 2007 U.S. Open in the hands of Retief Goosen— the R7 Quad Mini delivers signature styling cues: A black clubhead with white, red, and yellow accents echoing the original R7 aesthetic.

Mini Driver, Major Tech
305cc head – Compact size for precision off the tee or from the deck.
43.75-inch length – Shorter than a traditional driver for added control and shotmaking versatility.

Quad Weighting System
- Four adjustable weights: two 13g and two 4g.
- Move weight to: Front for a lower, penetrating ball flight, back for increased forgiveness and playability.
- Additional weights are available for fine-tuning CG and shot shape.

Infinity Carbon Crown
- Lightweight crown redistributes mass for optimized performance.
- Satin finish delivers a clean look and inspires confidence at address.
Additional tech
- Twist Face – Helps maintain ball speed and accuracy on off-center strikes.
- Speed Pocket – Enhances face flex for better launch and speed, especially low on the face.

Slab city on the Korn Ferry Tour — Lead Tape Report
This week, we have our Tour Photographer, Greg Moore, on the ground at the OccuNet Classic at Tascosa Golf Club in Amarillo, Texas, for the 14th event of the 2026 Korn Ferry Tour season. With that, we see some great things in the Lead Tape Report as we roll into Amarillo.
Joel Thelen
Monday Qualifier, Joel Thelen is in the field this week. He has played on the Korn Ferry Tour for a full season in 2023, and he is back in action this week. A couple of clubs caught my eye this week in his bag.
First off: His trusted Titleist 816 H2 hybrid. This club came out in October of 2015, and it still remains strong in the bag. Also, take a look at this Odyssey White Hot OG 7, putting a capital S in the 7S model. This custom neck has some impressive lean for an arm-lock-style putter. The bottom of the putter is covered in tape for optimal weighting.

Mitchell Meissner
Taking a look at Mitchell Meissner’s bag this week, we have some great lead tape coverage. Top to bottom working from fairway metals, irons, and wedges. We can see on the short irons and wedges that there is tape at the base of the grip, adding a little counterbalance. Along with that, some tape on the short irons and wedges as well. Moving to his putter, he rolls the Odyssey 7 Bird putter. Meissner putts left-handed and strikes the ball right-handed.

- macedan: “Started with a hand-me-down Golden Bear set from my brother when I was in high school, never really played more than once a year or got into the game until about summer of 2017. First purchased a set of Cleveland CG4’s (I actually really miss this set sometimes, soft & not terribly large for a GI iron), moved into Nike Vapor Fly’s by the end of the year. Those lasted until spring of 18 when I decided I wanted new, so I traded them in for TM Rbladez. Honestly, although I liked the Rbladez, poor decision on my part, I think this was really about the only time so far that after a week or two I was kicking myself for not staying with what I had. Rbladez stayed with me until late last summer when I switched to P790’s and (knock on wood) I am hoping this will be my longest lasting set.”
- JimmyC59: “MacGregor Jack Nicklaus Triple Crown. Palmer The Standard. Still play these.”

There is no doubt this one is different from the last, the BRNR. (The Copper BRNR was merely a cosmetic change.) So, the real question: does the distinction (the change in weights) represent an actual difference, one worth upgrading?

Wonder if Sean Toulon’s MWT patent finally ran out or if he’s getting paid a royalty on this one?
