WITB Time Machine: Ian Poulter’s winning WITB, 2018 Houston Open
The 2018 Houston Open is remembered in part for what happened at the tournament prior. After initially believing he had secured a spot at the Masters through the WGC-Dell Technologies Match Play — Ian Poulter found out he had miscalculated. Thus, Poulter entered Houston with one last chance to qualify for the season’s first major. The Englishman delivered under pressure, sinking a clutch 20-foot birdie putt on the 72nd hole to force a playoff with Beau Hossler. In the sudden death showdown, Poulter remained steady while Hossler faltered, carding a par on the first playoff hole punch his ticket to Augusta in storybook fashion.
