Tiger Woods ruptures left Achilles while training at home, has surgery

Tiger Woods announced that he underwent surgery on Tuesday after tearing his left Achilles tendon as he began to “ramp up” his training at home.

The 49-year-old shared the news in a post on X, revealing that Dr. Charlton Stucken from the Hospital for Special Surgery in West Palm Beach, Florida, performed a “minimally invasive” procedure to repair the tendon.

“The surgery went as planned, and we expect a full recovery,” Dr. Stucken said in a statement.

Woods is now recovering at his home in Jupiter, Florida, where he will focus on rehabilitation. At this time, no return date for his competitive comeback has been provided.

Woods had not competed in any PGA Tour events this season. Although he had entered the Genesis Invitational at Torrey Pines in San Diego, he withdrew from the field, stating he wasn’t ready to return to play.

Woods’ most recent appearance in a tour event was at The Open Championship in July, where he missed the cut at Royal Troon Golf Course in Scotland. Woods participated in four TGL matches this season, including a 9-1 loss with Jupiter Links against Atlanta Drive GC in the regular-season finale on March 4. He also played in the PNC Championship in December, mostly riding in a cart with his son, Charlie.

Woods had been training to make a return from September back surgery.
