Spotted: Titleist GT280 mini driver

We were teased with a Titleist mini driver earlier in the year when we spotted the TSR 2-wood back in March. We saw quite a few players testing out the TSR 2-wood through the year as the mini driver phenomenon has continued to spread.

This week, Titleist began seeding the GT280 mini driver out on tour at The Sentry but isn’t letting out any of the under-the-hood details. Kapalua is a beautiful backdrop for releasing a new club, and something like a mini driver or 2-wood probably has a spot in many bags.

From what we can see, there are some similarities and differences between the TSR 2-wood we saw earlier and the new GT280. The biggest, and most functional, similarity is the twin weights on the sole and back of the GT280. These weights should be used to set up the GT280 as either a spin-killing machine with a heavier weight forward and a more forgiving fairway finder with the heavy weight in the back. Now the weights have changed to match the rest of the GT wood line, looking a little smaller and sleeker. The size of the GT280 looks to be a little smaller and closer to fairway wood size compared to competitor mini drivers.

We can assume that the GT280 name means the head is 280cc, but Titleist isn’t confirming the true size yet. To us, the head looks much more versatile if you need to hit it off the turf than some other mini drivers on the market.

We have only seen pictures of a 13-degree head, but Titleist has included its SureFit hosel system to dial in the GT280 and add or subtract loft in order to get the GT280 dialed into the player. The head is painted a classic gloss black like the GT wood line and it will be interesting to find out if the crown shares the same Matrix Polymer construction as its driver and fairway siblings. The face also has full scoring lines like the fairway woods for a similar look at address.

We are excited to learn more about the new Titleist GT280 when Titleist is ready to dish out the details. It will also be fun to see who out on tour this week is testing it and putting it in play for the Sentry, and we’ll be ready to bring you those details!

Slab city on the Korn Ferry Tour — Lead Tape Report

This week, we have our Tour Photographer, Greg Moore, on the ground at the OccuNet Classic at Tascosa Golf Club in Amarillo, Texas, for the 14th event of the 2026 Korn Ferry Tour season. With that, we see some great things in the Lead Tape Report as we roll into Amarillo.

Joel Thelen

Monday Qualifier, Joel Thelen is in the field this week. He has played on the Korn Ferry Tour for a full season in 2023, and he is back in action this week. A couple of clubs caught my eye this week in his bag.

First off: His trusted Titleist 816 H2 hybrid. This club came out in October of 2015, and it still remains strong in the bag. Also, take a look at this Odyssey White Hot OG 7, putting a capital S in the 7S model. This custom neck has some impressive lean for an arm-lock-style putter. The bottom of the putter is covered in tape for optimal weighting.

Mitchell Meissner

Taking a look at Mitchell Meissner’s bag this week, we have some great lead tape coverage. Top to bottom working from fairway metals, irons, and wedges. We can see on the short irons and wedges that there is tape at the base of the grip, adding a little counterbalance. Along with that, some tape on the short irons and wedges as well. Moving to his putter, he rolls the Odyssey 7 Bird putter. Meissner putts left-handed and strikes the ball right-handed.
