Spotted: New prototype Srixon ZXi7 & ZXi5 irons

Srixon has released some brand new irons out at the 2024 Procore Championship that could be the replacements for the extremely popular ZX5 MkII and ZX7 MkII irons.

The new prototype irons are marked ZXi5 and ZXi7 and seem to have some familiar markings on them. While Srixon isn’t officially saying anything about them we can speculate on what is to come from these protos.

Srixon ZXi7 irons

On first glance the new ZXi7 looks very similar to the current ZX7 MkII irons. On the hosel we noticed an “i-Forged” label, confirming that they are forged but not sure what the tech is there.

We also see the text “PUREFRAME” on the back of the iron. The current ZX7 MkII has PureFrame to enhance feel and it looks like this new iron has a larger mass behind the center for even better feel and probably increased performance.

It looks like a similar version of the famous Tour V Sole is still there for great turf interaction. The topline almost seems to be slightly thinner and the face contains some laser etching in between the grooves. I would say that this new iron might also have a touch less offset than the current model.

Srixon ZXi5 irons

It looks like these irons should be similar multi-piece construction to the current ZX5 MkII. There is a small badge in the back cavity that has Srixon’s “MAINFRAME” text, signaling that the face should contain variable thickness to increase ball speed.

The chrome badge does have a similar shape to the PureFrame in the ZXi7 while the cavity does look to be a smidge larger than the ZX5 MkII. This larger cavity could increase forgivness.

We see the same “I-Forged” logo as the ZXi7 on the hosel so the ZXi5 should be forged for a nice soft feel. Srixon included their Tour V Sole on this iron and the topline might be a bit thinner here as well.

Slab city on the Korn Ferry Tour — Lead Tape Report

This week, we have our Tour Photographer, Greg Moore, on the ground at the OccuNet Classic at Tascosa Golf Club in Amarillo, Texas, for the 14th event of the 2026 Korn Ferry Tour season. With that, we see some great things in the Lead Tape Report as we roll into Amarillo.

Joel Thelen

Monday Qualifier, Joel Thelen is in the field this week. He has played on the Korn Ferry Tour for a full season in 2023, and he is back in action this week. A couple of clubs caught my eye this week in his bag.

First off: His trusted Titleist 816 H2 hybrid. This club came out in October of 2015, and it still remains strong in the bag. Also, take a look at this Odyssey White Hot OG 7, putting a capital S in the 7S model. This custom neck has some impressive lean for an arm-lock-style putter. The bottom of the putter is covered in tape for optimal weighting.

Mitchell Meissner

Taking a look at Mitchell Meissner’s bag this week, we have some great lead tape coverage. Top to bottom working from fairway metals, irons, and wedges. We can see on the short irons and wedges that there is tape at the base of the grip, adding a little counterbalance. Along with that, some tape on the short irons and wedges as well. Moving to his putter, he rolls the Odyssey 7 Bird putter. Meissner putts left-handed and strikes the ball right-handed.
