Golf Gratitude: Your weekly dose of good vibes from the golf world
In a world where professional sports are often marred by scandal, ego, and the relentless pursuit of wealth and fame, Scottie Scheffler stands out as a beacon of humility and authenticity. As the 2024 PGA Tour FedEx Cup Champion and the world’s number-one player, Scheffler’s success on the golf course is undeniable. However, what’s truly remarkable about him doesn’t just reside in his spectacular drives or pinpoint accuracy on the greens; his unwavering commitment to his life priorities sets him apart.
Scottie Scheffler’s wholesomeness and humbleness are the bedrock of his dominance in the sport. His balanced perspective on life amidst the glitz and glamour is not just refreshing but also deeply inspiring. It reminds us that there’s more to life than what happens between the first tee and the 18th hole. This perspective is a beacon of hope for all, especially in a world where work-life balance is a constant struggle for many.

One of the pillars of Scheffler’s life is his family. In numerous interviews, he’s spoken about the invaluable support he received from his parents and wife. For instance, his parents often traveled with him to tournaments, providing emotional support and practical help. His wife, a constant presence in his life, has been a source of strength during the highs and lows of his career. Their unwavering faith in him and their presence in his life has provided a solid foundation that has undoubtedly been a cornerstone in his journey to the top. Imagine the pressure of playing at the highest level, week in and week out. Now imagine having a loving and supportive family to lean on during the highs and lows. It’s no wonder Scheffler exudes such calm confidence on the course.
Scheffler’s faith also plays an enormous role in defining who he is, both as a person and as a golfer. In today’s often cynical world, athletes like Scheffler, who openly embrace and live by their faith, bring a sense of authenticity that is much needed. His faith isn’t just a talking point — it’s a guiding principle in his life. When you see Scheffler on the course, you’re seeing a man who is not just playing for himself but for something greater. This deeper sense of purpose is what helps him maintain his composure, focus, and dedication, even under the most intense pressure.
This seamless blend of family values and faith is evident in his attitude, which stands as a model for fellow golfers and anyone striving for success in their respective fields. In an era where work-life balance is a constant struggle for many, Scheffler demonstrates that aligning professional excellence with personal fulfillment is possible. His demeanor on and off the course shows that you don’t have to sacrifice one for the other. Rather, integrating both can propel you to new heights.
What makes Scheffler so relatable is his everyman attitude. Despite his significant achievements, he carries himself with an air of humility that is incredibly endearing. When interacting with fans or engaging with the media, Scheffler’s unpretentious nature shines through. He’s not just a player you’d want to root for because of his skill but because he’s a genuinely good person. His everyman attitude reminds us that success doesn’t have to change who we are; it’s about staying true to ourselves and our values.
In the hustle and bustle of our daily lives, losing sight of what’s truly important is easy. Sports figures like Scottie Scheffler remind us of the essence of life – family, faith, and humility. His success on the golf course is no accident; it’s a testament to a life lived with priorities firmly in place. Scheffler’s approach to life and golf is a refreshing reminder that true success isn’t just measured in trophies and titles but in the quality of our relationships and the principles by which we live.
Scottie Scheffler’s journey serves as an exemplary blueprint to all aspiring golfers and, frankly, to anyone aiming for personal and professional success. May his story inspire us all to keep our priorities in check, remain humble in our achievements, and always stay true to what matters most.

AVL: My U.S. Amateur local qualifying experience
This past Monday, I played in the U.S. Amateur local qualifier at Rock Creek Country Club in Portland, Oregon. A full tee sheet from 7:30 a.m. to 1:55 p.m., the top 11 scores would make it to the U.S. Amateur final qualifying.
I teed off at 10:48 a.m.. With the 7:30 am tee time, you can get a feel for the leaders’ pace, and they were off and running on the challenging setup at Rock Creek.

Getting to the highlight of the round on the par five 17th, a drive up the left side and 212 yards left to the front hole location. I took out a 5-iron with plans of middle of the green. The ball ended up 8 feet left of the hole, pin high. A slight downhill putt dropped in for an eagle 3 on the 17th. With the cut line looking to be anywhere from -2 to even par. This was the boost I had been waiting for all day.
With making par from the trees on 18, it was time to wait for a potential playoff with a posted score of one under par 71.
Three hours later, it was playoff time. 8 players for 6 spots. I made par on the playoff hole, which was good enough to advance to the U.S. Amateur final qualifying in July. USGA qualifiers sure deliver on all of the emotions in golf!
