Good Friday morning, golf fans, as day two of the Sanderson Farms Championship gets underway.

1. TGL will air on ESPN

Lillian Rizzo for CNBC…”Disney’s ESPN has nabbed the broadcast rights to air matches from TGL, the startup golf league led by Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy.”

  • “TGL, which is in partnership with the PGA Tour, will have its debut Jan. 9 as part of a multiyear deal. A preview show will air on Disney’s broadcast network ABC on Dec. 30.”
  • “The early games of the TGL season will air near other sports events and appear on Disney’s ESPN+, a move that allows the streamer to bulk up on more live sports rights.”
  • “The inaugural match will air the night after the College Football Playoff’s title game, and the second will come the following evening after an NFL wild-card playoff game. Both TGL matches will air on traditional TV’s ESPN and streamer ESPN+. The rest of the matches will air on ESPN’s TV networks, as well as ESPN+.”

2. Fire at Marco Simone

AP report…”A large fire in a temporary hospitality structure at the Marco Simone club outside Rome that hosted the Ryder Cup last weekend was quickly brought under control, organizers of golf’s biggest team event said Thursday, adding that nobody was injured.”

  • “A fire was reported in one of the temporary hospitality structures to the right of the first fairway at Marco Simone Golf & Country Club earlier this afternoon,” Ryder Cup Europe said in a statement. “Local fire crews were called to the scene at 5:07 p.m. local time and quickly brought the blaze under control. Nobody was injured in the incident and the fire did not spread beyond the hospitality structure. There was no damage to the golf course or any other structure. The cause of the fire is currently being investigated.”

3. Champions Tour course vandalized

Garry Smits for the Florida Times Union…”The Constellation Furyk & Friends was in crisis mode around 4 a.m. on Thursday.“

  • “The issue was solved before noon due to the efforts of the tournament and Timuquana Country Club staffs and outside help from the TPC Sawgrass agronomy staff and Maccurrach Golf Construction.“
  • “Four greens on the course and one practice green were damaged in the early morning hours on Thursday by vandals wielding tools believed to be shovels or hoes.”

4. Couples: McIlroy ‘’disrespected caddie in front of his wife’

Ben Rumsby for the Telegraph…”Fred Couples, the United States Ryder Cup vice-captain, has branded Rory McIlroy the “disrespectful” one in his furious bust-up with two of the American caddies during last weekend’s contest.”

  • “Couples risked stoking bad blood between the two teams by accusing Europe’s talisman of “saying words that shouldn’t be said” in front of Jim ‘Bones’ Mackay’s wife during the infamous row that spilled over into the Marco Simone Golf and Country Club car park and almost to the visitors’ locker room.”
  • “McIlroy had been incensed by Joe LaCava joining in what were wild US celebrations after his player Patrick Cantlay made a brilliant birdie at the last but with the Northern Irishman and playing partner Matt Fitzpatrick still with putts to tie a gripping final fourballs contest.”
  • “There was also a suggestion that LaCava had stepped on McIlroy’s line: ie come between the ball and the hole…”

5. Brookline 2038

Reuters report…”The U.S. Open will return to The Country Club in Brookline, Mass., in 2038, the USGA announced Thursday.”

  • “The historic venue outside Boston previously hosted the U.S. Open in 1913, 1963, 1988 and 2022.”

6. JT: We’re sick of Alan Shipnuck

Our Matt Vincenzi…”Kyle Porter of CBS posted a picture of a blurb in Shipnuck’s book about Rory McIlroy on Wednesday night that included an unnamed former Ryder Cup teammate saying “F*ck Rory”.”

  • “Justin Thomas replied to Porter’s tweet, saying that he and other Tour players are “sick of Alan Shipnuck doing what he does.”
  • “I’d like to speak on behalf of a lot of Tour players and say we’re sick of @AlanShipnuck doing what he does. Bring positivity and good stories to help grow the game of golf, not try and make money bashing guys, earning zero trust, with a lot of incorrect information. Ridiculous”

7. Cantlay’s rejected LIV offer?

Our Matt Vincenzi…”With Alan Shipnuck’s “LIV and Let Die: The Inside Story of the War Between the PGA Tour and LIV” set to be released on October 17th, some interesting excerpts have surfaced this week.”

  • “Patrick Cantlay, who reportedly took issue with players not being paid for last weekend’s Ryder Cup, is part of one of the stories in the book.”
  • “Shipnuck writes that
  • “Patrick Cantlay is a member of the Tour’s board, which must ratify any final agreement with the PIF. He is known for driving hard bargains; a fellow player who has worked with Cantlay on governance issues calls him ‘a terrific penis’ Translation: He’s a d*ck. Of course, if Cantlay is salty perhaps it is because he turned down a $75 million offer from LIV.”

8. Koepka’s mom refutes Shipnuck claims

Our Matt Vincenzi…”In an excerpt released from Alan Shipnuck’s new book, LIV and Let Die: The Inside Story of the War Between the PGA Tour and LIV Golf, the author alleges that Brooks Koepka spoke out against Justin Thomas, Jordan Spieth and other PGA Tour players at the 2022 JP McManus pro-am in July of 2022.”

  • “Fu*k all of those country club kids who talk sh*t about me. You think I give a fu*k what they think? You think I care what people say about me? I just had three surgeries, and I’m supposed to turn down $130 million? I grew up with nothing. After signing that contract, the first person I called was my mom. We both cried.”
  • In a strange twist, Koepka’s mother Denise Jakows took to X to deny the report that her and her son cried together when he signed his LIV deal.
  • “Just to clarify, the only time my son @BKoepka and I cried together was when he was born. He was testing lungs for the first time; I was glad the pregnancy ordeal was over. End of story.”

Most birdies without breaking par – GolfWRXers discuss

Published

on

In our forums, one user is wondering how many birdies other players have had in a round while still failing to break par. @Lalan45, unfortunately, asked the question after a unique experience of their own.

They wrote:

“Today I managed 8 birdies but still shot even par, could have been a round to remember! What’s the most birdies you’ve made in a round and still didn’t break par?”

Our members in the forum shared their own experiences with successful rounds that still resulted in a score over par. Here are a few posts from the thread, but make sure to check out the entire discussion and have your say at the link below.

  • kwcsports: “I’ve had 5 a few times, still shot 80+ haha.”
  • jda: “I played a course for the first time, had 8 birdies, 9 doubles and an eagle. The infamous no-par round. I kept the scorecard. Every shot had a creek that I did not know about, or I was within 8-10 feet for a birdie look. To this day, I have no idea if I should be really jacked up or mad about that performance.”
  • jvincent: “I think my record is either 5 or 6. Probably shot 75.”
  • Instron4204: “3 birdies and shot a 92…man I suck!”

Best current stock shaft 2026 – GolfWRXers discuss

Published

on

In our forums, one user is asking for thoughts on the best stock shafts offered in 2026. Stock shafts are the shafts included with a club when it’s purchased from retailers or OEMs.

@DTorres asked:

The last couple years has seen a lot of updates and additions to no upcharge stock shafts, which do you think is the best offering in 2026?

Im a bit of a shaft nerd and recently during my Members Testing with the Callaway Quantum Triple Diamond I found the updated Project X Denali Frost Black to be a fantastic stock shaft. I absolutely did not mesh well with the original Denali. Just curious what other people think are the current best Stock shaft offerings out with new models and stock Ventus options and LinQ options popping up here and there.

We were given the option for any stock shafts for our members review. I went with the 70g Black Frost 6.5 because it’s a shaft I don’t have, it’s an updated version of the original Denali and hear little about. I typically use a Diamana WB, GD VF or a HOF Raptor. I’m not saying it was neck and neck with any of those but it was a pleasant surprise I’m not accustomed to in stock shaft offerings.

Our members in the forum have been offering up their own thoughts on the best stock shafts available in 2026. Here are a few posts from the thread, but make sure to check out the entire discussion and have your say at the link below.

  • rsballer10: “IMO – MCA Ka’ili White Darkwave, Tensei 1k Black/white, UST Lin-Q White. People are free to spend their money however they see fit, but for me personally the shaft catalogs these days have enough options that I don’t see the value of a $400 upcharge. I have never had a problem finding a no upcharge shaft that fits the bend profile and weight that I need. Whether the paint job is good enough or not is above my pay scale.”
  • bcflyguy1: “Project X Titan Black. I’ve had one in 60TX in my Quantum TD Max for several weeks now. Have to give Titlieist their flowers for finding a way to make it available as a featured option; very shrewd bit of business and one that I suspect will be duplicated by the other companies. TT/PX have a certified banger on their hands with Titan.”
  • CTG77: “Undoubtedly, it’s the Tensei 1K RIP shafts from Titleist. The Tensei line gives about 98% of the performance of a Ventus VeloCore+ shaft at a tiny fraction of the cost if you’re looking for a blue or red profile. The white is not an exact match for Ventus Black, but it’s closer to it than the non-VeloCore+ Ventus shafts that come from Callaway or formerly came from TaylorMade.”
