Good Friday morning, golf fans, as day two of the 3M Open and Evian Championship gets underway.

1. Paula Reto leads Evian

AP Report…”Paula Reto had eight birdies as she carded a 7-under 64 to take a surprise first-round lead at the Évian Championship on Thursday.”

  • The 33-year-old South African holds a two-shot lead over 2015 champion Lydia Ko of New Zealand and three other players locked on 66: Frenchwoman Celine Boutier, American Alison Lee, and Thai golfer Wichanee Meechai — who recovered from a bogey and a double bogey early on.
  • “I had so much fun,” Reto said. “The views and everything, it’s just awesome to be here. I hit some good quality shots beginning of the round and just gave myself opportunities.”

2. Senator introduces bill to revoke Tour’s tax-exempt status

Golf Channel’s Rex Hoggard…”Two weeks after a Senate committee questioned PGA Tour officials about the circuit’s framework agreement with the Public Investment Fund of Saudi Arabia, a lawmaker has moved to revoke the Tour’s tax-exempt status.”

  • “Senator Ron Wyden (D-Ore.), the chair of the Senate’s finance committee, introduced two bills Wednesday, the Sports League Tax-Exempt Status Limitation Act and the Ending Tax Breaks for Massive Sovereign Wealth Funds Act.”
  • “An organization that betrays its own word and agrees to become a profit generator for Saudi Arabia’s brutal regime has disqualified itself for a tax exemption,” Wyden said.
  • “…At issue is the Tour’s tax-exempt status as a 501(c)(6) organization and how that status would change if the framework agreement becomes definitive and creates a for-profit entity with the Tour, PIF and LIV Golf.”

3. Scheffler 1st named to Ryder Cup

Reuters report…”World No. 1 Scottie Scheffler is the first player selected to the 12-man U.S. Ryder Cup team via points, the PGA of America announced Wednesday.”

  • “Scheffler has been dominant this PGA Tour season, with seven consecutive top-five finishes before tying for 23rd at the Open Championship on Sunday. Before The Open, the 27-year-old had not finished worse than a tie for 12th since the CJ Cup in October (tied for 45th), and over 19 tournaments had captured the WM Phoenix Open in February and the Players Championship in March.”

4. Couples on Ryder Cup bubble players

Our Matt Vincenzi…”While speaking on Sirius XM PGA Tour, Fred Couples revealed some players who he believes are “locks” to make the United States Ryder Cup team.”

  • “The U.S. team assistant captain said that: “Max Homa’s going to be in Italy, without getting anyone in trouble. Cam Young will be in Italy. Jordan Spieth will be in Italy.”
  • “As of today, the automatic qualifiers for the United States team would be Scottie Scheffler, Wyndham Clark, Brian Harman, Brooks Koepka, Xander Schauffele, Patrick Cantlay.”

5. Dusek: Jay Monahan’s memo starts the bargaining with the USGA and R&A

Golfweek’s David Dusek…”Getting the PGA Tour (and, by extension, the Korn Ferry Tour and DP World Tour) on board with the MLR is critical for the USGA and the R&A. It would represent the most significant seal of approval possible and it has felt like a foregone conclusion to many people in the golf industry.”

  • “In the four months since the USGA and R&A jointly announced the proposed MLR, numerous executives and industry insiders who spoke with Golfweek shrugged their collective shoulders and begrudgingly seemed to have accepted that if the MLR were passed, the PGA Tour would adopt it.”
  • “Those feelings still exist, and industry veterans who spoke with Golfweek on Thursday morning see Monahan’s comments as the start of a bargaining process.”
Full piece.

6. Champ WDs after birth of child

Reuters report…”Former champion Cameron Champ withdrew from the 3M Open before Thursday’s opening round following the birth of his first child.”

  • “Champ and his wife, Jessica Birdsong, welcomed a baby boy into their family Sunday night…”

GolfWRX’s Father’s Day Gift Guide (2026)

Published

on

A reminder from your friends at GolfWRX: Father’s Day is June 21. And as we do every year, we’re rounding up the best gifts for dad.

As we say every year, there’s no better golf-related Father’s Day gift than a round of golf with pops. Be it a country club or your favorite muni, take the time to get together to play 18 if you can.

Let’s get to the gifts.

Ghost Golf Qualifier Diamond Polo

We like the new polos that Ghost is offering, as the fabric and fit are so good. These new Qualifier Collection polos breathe well, are lightweight, stretch with your swing, and of course look great. You can wear them on the course, in the office, or just out at a casual event and they will fit right in.

Why Golf: Putting Thing

When it comes to practice, it is good to have a purpose. This “Putting Thing” sure does it. We know from personal experience how challenging it can be and how rewarding it is on the practice green. This also provides some competition for your kiddo to see who will unload the dishwasher or do the next chore around the house.

For the post-game shoe, at your locker or while putting your clubs away in the car. Nice to slide into a shoe that looks good anywhere. Pair that with meeting the family for dinner, no need to change!

At GolfWRX, we are a community of like-minded individuals who all experience and express our enjoyment of the game in many ways.

It’s that sense of community that drives day-to-day interactions in the forums on topics that range from best driver to what marker you use to mark your ball. It even allows us to share another thing we all love – buying and selling equipment.

Currently, in our GolfWRX buy/sell/trade (BST) forum, @HuskerFlyer is sharing a Scotty Cameron GOLO with a BGT Stability Tour2 2022 M Edition shaft. While the putter is certainly enviable, the Augusta-inspired shaft is equally noteworthy.
