Spotted: Jason Day’s new “Tiger Woods” irons (TaylorMade P7TW)

Jason Day let our own Andrew Tursky in on his big iron change that he is making right before the U.S. Open this week. He was doing some club testing back home in Ohio where he has built an absolutely stunning practice facility, and he made a surprising switch.

Day showed up to Los Angeles Country Club with a brand new set of TaylorMade P7TW irons in the bag. Jason had been playing the TaylorMade P7MC forged cavity back irons, winning the AT&T Byron Nelson just a few weeks ago. The P7MC irons are a forged cavity back with a little bit of perimeter weighting for added forgiveness while still being soft and allowing skilled players to work the ball. Tiger worked extensively with TaylorMade to create his irons with a thin topline, narrow sole, and longer heel to toe blade length. He told Tursky why he made the very, very recent switch to blades.

“It’s not like I wasn’t happy with the [TaylorMade P-7MC] irons, I obviously just won with them, but I noticed they were coming out a bit low, and the spin was low,” Day told GolfWRX.com on Tuesday at Los Angeles Country Club. “The P-7TW’s spin more.”

With the conditions at L.A. Country Club looking pretty brutal, a little more height and control can never hurt! Day is sticking with the same shafts that he was playing in his P7MC irons, the KBS C-Taper 125 S+. His grips are also staying put (Golf Pride Tour Velvet Cord).

Slab city on the Korn Ferry Tour — Lead Tape Report

This week, we have our Tour Photographer, Greg Moore, on the ground at the OccuNet Classic at Tascosa Golf Club in Amarillo, Texas, for the 14th event of the 2026 Korn Ferry Tour season. With that, we see some great things in the Lead Tape Report as we roll into Amarillo.

Joel Thelen

Monday Qualifier, Joel Thelen is in the field this week. He has played on the Korn Ferry Tour for a full season in 2023, and he is back in action this week. A couple of clubs caught my eye this week in his bag.

First off: His trusted Titleist 816 H2 hybrid. This club came out in October of 2015, and it still remains strong in the bag. Also, take a look at this Odyssey White Hot OG 7, putting a capital S in the 7S model. This custom neck has some impressive lean for an arm-lock-style putter. The bottom of the putter is covered in tape for optimal weighting.

Mitchell Meissner

Taking a look at Mitchell Meissner’s bag this week, we have some great lead tape coverage. Top to bottom working from fairway metals, irons, and wedges. We can see on the short irons and wedges that there is tape at the base of the grip, adding a little counterbalance. Along with that, some tape on the short irons and wedges as well. Moving to his putter, he rolls the Odyssey 7 Bird putter. Meissner putts left-handed and strikes the ball right-handed.
