Tiger-less Buick Will Still Roar
Tiger Woods will not be competing at the Buick Open this week, but there will certainly be a very exiting tournament. Three of the top 25 players in the world will challenge at Warwick Hills June 28 – July 1.
In a change from its traditional spot between The Open Championship and the PGA Championship, the Buick Open in Grand Blanc, MI will be contested June 28 – July 1st without another tradition: Tiger Woods. For the first time since 2001, the field at the Buick Open will not include the world’s number one as he is at home with his new cub. Additionally, three time champion Vijay Singh will not be competing this week. That is the bad news.
The good news is Jim Furyk (3), Trevor Immelman (15), and Charles Howell III (23) are ranked players in the top 25 that will be making a run at the title. Perennial fan favorite John Daly will be there. Fred Funk is making another appearance on the "regular" tour at the Buick. Chris DiMarco has also comitted to being in the field. Let’s also not forget the wonderful roars of the 17th that can be heard all the way to Canada.Scott Verplank said, "The greens are always really good. Fairways are always really good. I think it’s a fun week if you play well because you can definitely make some birdies, shoot good scores. And the crowds here, particularly on Saturday and Sunday, are pretty fun coming down the stretch, the last two or three holes, particularly 17, I always enjoy that." Locals love getting to the 17th early and enjoying the party atmosphere. It is one of the more enthusiastic crowds in all of golf, playing second fiddle only to the 16th at TPC Scottsdale. With the surrounding water, sand, and intensity, it can be one of the hardest challenges a golfer will face at Warwick Hills.
Warwick Hills has been the site of the continually since 1978. It was hosted there for the first ten years as a tournament, but it was dropped in 1969 off the schedule. It played host to a bunch of unsanctioned events, and Grand Blanc was picked for the 1977 tourney. In 1978, Warwick was again the home, and it has never left since. The Buick is a major source of donations in the Flint area. Last year, $832,000 was donated to various Southeastern Michigan charities from proceeds. Steve Shannon, Buick GM states, "“We are very pleased to be able to continue this tradition of giving to the many worthy organizations that provide badly needed programs and services for so many people.”
The record $4.9 million purse is on the line at 7127 yard, par 72 Warwick Hills with the winner receiving $882,000 and of course a Buick Enclave. Warwick Hills played as the 9th easiest course on tour last year with a winning score of -24, so it should be a varitable birdie-fest. With a fairly vulnerable course and the defending champ at home changing diapers, look for a shootout to the finish. Tune into the television coverage or log into to Live @ The Buick for live streaming action from the 17th hole at Warwick Hills.

GolfWRX’s Father’s Day Gift Guide (2026)
A reminder from your friends at GolfWRX: Father’s Day is June 21. And as we do every year, we’re rounding up the best gifts for dad.
As we say every year, there’s no better golf-related Father’s Day gift than a round of golf with pops. Be it a country club or your favorite muni, take the time to get together to play 18 if you can.
Let’s get to the gifts.
Ghost Golf Qualifier Diamond Polo

We like the new polos that Ghost is offering, as the fabric and fit are so good. These new Qualifier Collection polos breathe well, are lightweight, stretch with your swing, and of course look great. You can wear them on the course, in the office, or just out at a casual event and they will fit right in.
STR8-Strip Grip Tape Remover

If your dad is an equipment aficionado and tinkers with his clubs, this tool works wonders. Removing grip tape has never been easier, just put a little head on the tape and the STR8-Strip peals it right off the shaft without any damage.
Why Golf: Putting Thing

When it comes to practice, it is good to have a purpose. This “Putting Thing” sure does it. We know from personal experience how challenging it can be and how rewarding it is on the practice green. This also provides some competition for your kiddo to see who will unload the dishwasher or do the next chore around the house.
OluKai Lae‘ahi Men’s Breathable Slip-On Shoes

Riding to and from the course in style and comfort is always a good thing. If you’re in a hurry, it’s a nice feature to slide into your shoes and get to the tee time. For the post-game shoe, at your locker or while putting your clubs away in the car. Nice to slide into a shoe that looks good anywhere. Pair that with meeting the family for dinner, no need to change!
Therabody Theragun Relief

A little wellness goes a long way. Keeping loose is a good way to go when it comes to the weekend game or treatment during the week. If there is a little ache or pain, the Theragun is there to help out. Help loosen up the back for a pre-game warm-up or cool-down.
World Cup golf apparel

Something for the soccer dads. Embrace the World Cup fever this summer on the course with custom gear to support the nation of your choice.
FootJoy Pro SL spikeless golf shoes

Give the old man a break and save his feet with the Footjoy Pro SL Men’s Spikeless Golf Shoes for some added comfort on the course.
Bushnell Wingman 2 GPS speaker

Combine all the hits as well as some game improvement with the Wingman 2 Golf GPS Speaker by getting audible distance readings from 38,000+ courses worldwide through the Wingman 2 remote or speaker.
Personalized Titleist Pro V1 golf balls

The No. 1 ball in golf is a safe bet, and the Pro V1 fits the largest chunk of the bell curve if you don’t know what ball pops plays. Add personalization for a, well, personal touch!

With the PGA Tour across the border in Canada this week, GolfWRX Tour Photographer Greg Moore stayed stateside and headed to the OccuNet Classic presented by Amarillo National Bank in Amarillo, Texas.
It’s always interesting to see what the guys are playing on the KFT, and this week certainly hasn’t disappointed so far, with some incredible wedge stamping on display.
