Tour Truck Report: Rory switching driver shafts? | Xander making a golf ball change? | Hideki testing putters
Not a ton going on at Muirfield Village this week! The most notable nugget we’ve heard from sources so far is Rory McIlroy, continuing his return to what’s worked in the past, is making a return to his Mitsubishi Kuro Kage XTS driver shaft. While we don’t yet have word on weight and flex, it’s presumably the same 70 X model he used in 2019-2020.
A morsel not as tasty as a Muirfield Village milkshake, admittedly, but Hideki Matsuyama is testing the prototype Piretti putter pictured below. No stranger to kicking tires on a couple (or a dozen) of putters prior to a tournament and ultimately returning to his gamer, Hideki is anything but confirmed to be putting this beauty in play, but it’s ours to admire, nevertheless.

TaylorMade
Rory McIlroy is expected to put a Kuro Kage XTS shaft in play in a SIM2 Max head.

Titleist
Justin Thomas is sticking with the TSi2 driver he put in play after the first round last week. (9 degrees, C1 SureFit hosel setting). Mitsubishi Diamana ZF 60 TX shaft. JT is also testing a Graphite Design Tour AD IZ Hybrid 10 X Prototype shaft in a driving iron.
Peter Malnati moved SureFit CG to neutral (from H2) on his TSi3 driver and is reportedly seeing improved dispersion.
Charles Howell III testing a Scotty Cameron Tour Rat. He’s also testing a Callaway Epic Speed Triple Diamond 3-wood (Fujikura Atmos Black 8 X shaft), according to a source.
Callaway
Branden Grace had a new Callaway Mavrik Sub Zero 7-wood built with a Mitsubishi Diamana DF 80 TX shaft. He also had a 4-PW set of TCB irons put together for testing (Project X LS 6.5 shafts).
Callaway Chrome Soft X man, X Man himself, Xander Schauffele is reportedly testing the Chrome Soft X LS ball. Obviously, X is looking for lower spin, and we’ll bring you more details when we have them.
Others
Cameron Champ tested a Mitsubishi Tensei AV White shaft in his Ping G425 driver.
Hideki Matsuyama is testing a 2022 Graphite Design Tour AD UB shaft in his Srixon ZX5 driver.

Slab city on the Korn Ferry Tour — Lead Tape Report
This week, we have our Tour Photographer, Greg Moore, on the ground at the OccuNet Classic at Tascosa Golf Club in Amarillo, Texas, for the 14th event of the 2026 Korn Ferry Tour season. With that, we see some great things in the Lead Tape Report as we roll into Amarillo.
Joel Thelen
Monday Qualifier, Joel Thelen is in the field this week. He has played on the Korn Ferry Tour for a full season in 2023, and he is back in action this week. A couple of clubs caught my eye this week in his bag.
First off: His trusted Titleist 816 H2 hybrid. This club came out in October of 2015, and it still remains strong in the bag. Also, take a look at this Odyssey White Hot OG 7, putting a capital S in the 7S model. This custom neck has some impressive lean for an arm-lock-style putter. The bottom of the putter is covered in tape for optimal weighting.

Mitchell Meissner
Taking a look at Mitchell Meissner’s bag this week, we have some great lead tape coverage. Top to bottom working from fairway metals, irons, and wedges. We can see on the short irons and wedges that there is tape at the base of the grip, adding a little counterbalance. Along with that, some tape on the short irons and wedges as well. Moving to his putter, he rolls the Odyssey 7 Bird putter. Meissner putts left-handed and strikes the ball right-handed.
