Callaway unveils new Mack Daddy CB wedge

Callaway Golf has introduced its new game improvement option Mack Daddy CB wedge featuring a deep cavity back, slightly larger head and thicker topline.

The all-new Mack Daddy CB wedge features two sole grinds. In the lower lofts, a full sole bids to provide iron-like turf interaction with moderate bounce. In the mid and higher lofts, a modified W Grind is designed to enhance bounce in order to add forgiveness out of bunkers and thick rough. The modified W Grind is designed with a low leading edge if you need to open the face.

The new wedge for 2020 includes the brand’s JAWS grooves featuring edge sharpness on every groove in design to provide maximum grip and spin from all types of lies.

On the sand wedge and lob wedge, the JAWS groove extends across the face in a bid to offer spin no matter where you hit the ball on the face.

Specs, Availability & Price

The KBS Hi-Rev 2.0 105 shaft arrives in a new lighter weight, while players who use graphite shafts in their irons can avail of an all-new graphite offering: the KBS Hi-Rev G, in both 60g and 80g.

Callaway has also partnered with Golf Pride to offer an all-new short game grip, the SG-1. This grip is longer than normal at 11.5” in design to allow you to choke down on the club for enhanced distance control.

The Callaway Mack Daddy CB wedge hits retail on September 24th, 2020 and costs $129.99 per wedge.

This is a game improvement wedge. The fact that Callaway have introduced it says quite a lot about the growing size of this category – which Cleveland Golf should be credited with acknowledging for the longest for since they’ve consistently offered a game improvement cavity back wedge as part of their wedge line up for at least the last 10 years.

This wedge’s size, shape and specification is all geared towards making the game easier for golfers who need a little more help finding a usable part of the clubface. Not all golfers are elite or accomplished and this sort of wedge helps make the game a little easier, more rewarding to their scoring and improves enjoyment of the game overall.

If you don’t like the shape or look, Callaway is not forcing you to buy it – they still have traditional blade style wedges in their range for you. The reality is it will help a lot golfers who have their minds open to trying something different. Think back to when the first metal headed driver came to the marketplace – did everyone fall in love with the look? Probably not, but added benefits soon became apparent and the rest as they say is history.

I like the styling and I love the concept and have been tinkering with the idea of a little more forgiveness in the wedge, mainly to blend with my CB irons. The CBX is a little much, to me these are far more appealing. The ping wedges look like a CB but are no more forgiving than vokeys in my hands.

I do enjoy the “Mack Daddy” on the back, wish they made a version that said “Papi” or “Ay Papi”. Main reason I wouldn’t get then is the stock shafts suck, when did we become so weak we couldn’t play an S200 in a wedge?

  Suggesting a 130g gram shaft is a better option in these clearly shows you have no idea who these type’s of wedges are designed for.

its ugly… I am a callaway guy 12 out of the 14 clubs in my bag are Callaway but this wedge is nasty looking. I am sure there are people out there that this wedge will help and for them thats a good thing but I couldnt look down at this club.

  Agreed. Appearance isn’t the primary thing, but I can’t play with something that looks like a bunker-helper from a late night infomercial.

Slab city on the Korn Ferry Tour — Lead Tape Report

This week, we have our Tour Photographer, Greg Moore, on the ground at the OccuNet Classic at Tascosa Golf Club in Amarillo, Texas, for the 14th event of the 2026 Korn Ferry Tour season. With that, we see some great things in the Lead Tape Report as we roll into Amarillo.

Joel Thelen

Monday Qualifier, Joel Thelen is in the field this week. He has played on the Korn Ferry Tour for a full season in 2023, and he is back in action this week. A couple of clubs caught my eye this week in his bag.

First off: His trusted Titleist 816 H2 hybrid. This club came out in October of 2015, and it still remains strong in the bag. Also, take a look at this Odyssey White Hot OG 7, putting a capital S in the 7S model. This custom neck has some impressive lean for an arm-lock-style putter. The bottom of the putter is covered in tape for optimal weighting.

Mitchell Meissner

Taking a look at Mitchell Meissner’s bag this week, we have some great lead tape coverage. Top to bottom working from fairway metals, irons, and wedges. We can see on the short irons and wedges that there is tape at the base of the grip, adding a little counterbalance. Along with that, some tape on the short irons and wedges as well. Moving to his putter, he rolls the Odyssey 7 Bird putter. Meissner putts left-handed and strikes the ball right-handed.
