Mizuno JPX 921 SEL: Lefties get forged JPX irons, too

Published

on

Don’t you worry, southpaws, Mizuno has heard your voices, and similar to the MP20 line, you will be getting your very own set of JPX 921 irons, the JPX921 SEL (Special Edition Lefty), made just for you.

So what makes the JPX 821 SEL irons special?

You may remember from the previous MP-20 launch piece, I referenced the iron series as the “MP-20 family” and how Mizuno spent a lot of time analyzing custom order set makeup data to fine-tune each club in each model to maximize performance in an individual level. Well, the company has once again taken that data from the JPX series and flipped it on its head, or at least hand, to create a set combining the most requested clubs just for left-handed players.

Mizuno JPX 921 SEL: More details

The JPX 921 SEL is a combination of 6-GW JPX 921 Tours with JPX 921 Forged 5, and 4-irons. All the flow, geometry, and materials technology from the right-handed models combined into one cohesive set.

Without going too far down the rabbit hole or statistics around right-handed vs. left-handed golfers, it must be noted that unless you’re a maple-syrup drinking, hockey-playing Canuck (don’t worry its not an offensive term), where around 25 to 30 percent of golfers play left-handed, the global golf population that plays left-handed is still well below 10 percent.

I’m not making any apologies for all the Simpsons GIFs.

Mizuno wants to do everything it can to offer an MP design for lefties, and as the data demonstrated, this was the best option to fit the most players. I also believe this was a big part of the reason Mizuno reengineered and shrunk down the JPX 921 Forged to fit in better as a combo-ing option with the 921 Tour.

At the end of the day, will this make all left-handed golfers looking at Mizuno irons happy? No, but it is certainly a big shaft in offering additional options, which is always a great thing.

Mizuno JPX 921 SEL: Price, specs, and availability

The stock components are KBS S-Taper Stiff flex with Golf Pride Z-grip full cord grips, and the standard set configuration with be 4-GW.

The price will be $162.50 per club, 6-GW, and $175 per club, 4- and 5-iron or $1,325 for the full eight-piece set.

Slab city on the Korn Ferry Tour — Lead Tape Report

Published

on

This week, we have our Tour Photographer, Greg Moore, on the ground at the OccuNet Classic at Tascosa Golf Club in Amarillo, Texas, for the 14th event of the 2026 Korn Ferry Tour season. With that, we see some great things in the Lead Tape Report as we roll into Amarillo.

Joel Thelen

Monday Qualifier, Joel Thelen is in the field this week. He has played on the Korn Ferry Tour for a full season in 2023, and he is back in action this week. A couple of clubs caught my eye this week in his bag.

First off: His trusted Titleist 816 H2 hybrid. This club came out in October of 2015, and it still remains strong in the bag. Also, take a look at this Odyssey White Hot OG 7, putting a capital S in the 7S model. This custom neck has some impressive lean for an arm-lock-style putter. The bottom of the putter is covered in tape for optimal weighting.

Mitchell Meissner

Taking a look at Mitchell Meissner’s bag this week, we have some great lead tape coverage. Top to bottom working from fairway metals, irons, and wedges. We can see on the short irons and wedges that there is tape at the base of the grip, adding a little counterbalance. Along with that, some tape on the short irons and wedges as well. Moving to his putter, he rolls the Odyssey 7 Bird putter. Meissner putts left-handed and strikes the ball right-handed.
