Today’s Forum Thread of the Day was created by lazyjc4, who asks fellow GolfWRX members for their opinion on what they feel are some of the easiest to hit players irons on the market. Our members have mentioned a multitude of players irons, with plenty of detailed reasoning behind their choices.

naj959: “I went through a couple of sets of irons this year which included 765s, flyz+, and finally settled on the…..Bridgestone J15 DPF. There are some great reviews of these irons. The 765s are forgiving, but the j15s are even more so. They have a very thin top line, are workable, and are lonnnng.”
Casper_golf: “Take a good look at the Wilson V6, or if you are looking for something older, guys really like the V4’s that can be found as a steal. Way underrated irons. Soft feel forgiving and long for the weaker lofts they have. No offset.”
Sonja Henie: “Very interested in the comment about the 745s being similar to the 545s in forgiveness. I’ve been very tempted by the 565s but might do better with the 765s.”

“Is it easier to hit players irons?”

Easier for whom? For those of us that don’t always break 90, the answer is no.

At demo day rough fittings, I usually chart out best with GI irons with sub-100 gram steel shafts, or Recoil 95s.

A couple of the “player’s cavity” irons such as the Ping i200 fly well for me, but the bladish clubs are very tough to handle.

A common tale I’m hearing from former college players who now have jobs and families: they shifted from players to GI irons because they don’t have time to keep a “players” swing in tune. The GI forgiveness helps their score, whereas the players high miss-to-supershot ratio hurts their score.

To GM: Your thread focus was a bit hard to decipher. In future, you might run your question by a colleague to make sure you say what you mean to say. It’s rough when you end up as your only editor.

I am always going with the thinking that I was always hit and miss with players irons but I might possibly be able to play with forged and forgiving irons. However I find the game improved a lot like my oversized irons, so I will keep playing them over the players’irons…I would make an exception with the Cobra Bio Cell+ irons though!

Slab city on the Korn Ferry Tour — Lead Tape Report

This week, we have our Tour Photographer, Greg Moore, on the ground at the OccuNet Classic at Tascosa Golf Club in Amarillo, Texas, for the 14th event of the 2026 Korn Ferry Tour season. With that, we see some great things in the Lead Tape Report as we roll into Amarillo.

Joel Thelen

Monday Qualifier, Joel Thelen is in the field this week. He has played on the Korn Ferry Tour for a full season in 2023, and he is back in action this week. A couple of clubs caught my eye this week in his bag.

First off: His trusted Titleist 816 H2 hybrid. This club came out in October of 2015, and it still remains strong in the bag. Also, take a look at this Odyssey White Hot OG 7, putting a capital S in the 7S model. This custom neck has some impressive lean for an arm-lock-style putter. The bottom of the putter is covered in tape for optimal weighting.

Mitchell Meissner

Taking a look at Mitchell Meissner’s bag this week, we have some great lead tape coverage. Top to bottom working from fairway metals, irons, and wedges. We can see on the short irons and wedges that there is tape at the base of the grip, adding a little counterbalance. Along with that, some tape on the short irons and wedges as well. Moving to his putter, he rolls the Odyssey 7 Bird putter. Meissner putts left-handed and strikes the ball right-handed.

First purchased a set of Cleveland CG4’s (I actually really miss this set sometimes, soft & not terribly large for a GI iron), moved into Nike Vapor Fly’s by the end of the year. Those lasted until spring of 18 when I decided I wanted new, so I traded them in for TM Rbladez.
