Mondays Off: Don’t let pride dictate your golf equipment decisions, Rickie vs. Bryson

Published

on

If Rickie Fowler isn’t too proud to play a game-improvement long iron (a Cobra King F9 Speedback 4 iron), why are you? Club pro Steve Westphal and Editor Andrew Tursky discuss buying the right equipment for you, whether more juniors should use single-length irons, Bryson vs. Rickie, drills to improve your short game, and why you should get more creative with your practice sessions.

I think equipment is part of the attraction of playing golf as a lifetime hobby….Being able to buy what you want to play is a tremendous feeling especially for anyone that grew up using hand me downs or K-Mart bought golf clubs….sure the better player needs to be fit to improve but the average 50, 60 year old playing in the senior men’s club can get more of a thrill then maybe improvement when he gets his first set of PING irons and the joy of walking up to the club house with those name brand irons/clubs in the bag can make any day of golf start on a very high note.

Why would Adam Scott not be able to hit Single Length irons? Anybody who could hit a 7 or 8 iron could hit Single Length irons…

Club Junkie: Ping i540 irons review + L.A.B. VZN.1i putters and Graphite Design shaft sightings

Published

on

On this episode of Club Junkie, I dive into the brand-new Ping i540 irons and talk about where they fit in the lineup, their performance on the course, and who I think they are really made for. There is a lot to love — and maybe one complaint in the new i540 irons.

The show also covers the new L.A.B. VZN.1i putters that have started showing up, plus some new Graphite Design Tour AD shafts spotted out on the PGA Tour and what makes them interesting. Wrapping things up, I might swap a few shafts into some putters and talk through how those changes might completely alter feel and performance.
