Fun and Games at the Memorial

Mickelson withdraws surrounded by an entourage. Woods can’t read the greens (is it his eyes?) nor has he picked a name for baby. A task he delays at his own peril. Wilson and Kelly have the golfing gods smile and spit on them in the same round, while in the same group. Pampling on the verge of a rare double, winning both The King’s and The Golden Bear’s tournaments.

The Memorial TournamentSitting here Sunday morning waiting for the lawn to dry so I can get it mowed I find myself with time to consider some of the antics taking place at the House That Jack Built in Dublin, Ohio. Phil Mickelson aggravates a wrist injured while practicing hitting out of the rough at Oakmont, the site of this years US Open.  Pretty good indicator that the rough is a place to be avoided at all costs. As he left the course his wrist was being massaged by a very large muscled tatooed man.  Who says America has no royalty.

Tiger Woods is hitting many fairways and more greens, but can’t get a putt in the hole because he says he’s having trouble reading the greens.  Time for a refund on that second LASIK surgery?  He also indicated he has yet to comply with wife Elin’s request for input on the baby’s name.  Eh, Tiger, tip here from a man with three kids, ignore requests from a pregnant woman at your peril!  They aren’t quite sane, and you’ll soon be the oaf responsible for her condition.

Mark Wilson set the record for consecutive birdies with 7 on the front side.  Then followed up that marvelous 29 with a slick 39 to shoot 68.  That’s not hitting the wall, it’s having it fall on your head.  In my world it would be kinda cool to be able to say I shot 39 on the back for a 68.  How much fun would it be to watch the recognition dawn on folks when they finally do the math and realize you shot a 29?  In the same group fellow Wisconsinite Jerry Kelly shot 69 with a pair of eagles and a snowman on his card.  The second eagle courtesy of a bank shot off Wilson’s ball.  The Golf gods apparently were smoking something following this duo around the course.  Weird game.

I’m pulling for Rod Pampling to pull off that rare career double; winning both Arnold’s and Jack’s tournaments.  And in the back of my tiny brain lurks the idea that it might be really interesting to see Tiger Woods go out early and post a 61 just to watch how the current leaders spit all over themselves on the way in this afternoon.  But then again I’m a big fan of psychological warfare.

on

A reminder from your friends at GolfWRX: Father’s Day is June 21. And as we do every year, we’re rounding up the best gifts for dad.

As we say every year, there’s no better golf-related Father’s Day gift than a round of golf with pops. Be it a country club or your favorite muni, take the time to get together to play 18 if you can.

Let’s get to the gifts.

We like the new polos that Ghost is offering, as the fabric and fit are so good. These new Qualifier Collection polos breathe well, are lightweight, stretch with your swing, and of course look great. You can wear them on the course, in the office, or just out at a casual event and they will fit right in.

Why Golf: Putting Thing

When it comes to practice, it is good to have a purpose. This “Putting Thing” sure does it. We know from personal experience how challenging it can be and how rewarding it is on the practice green. This also provides some competition for your kiddo to see who will unload the dishwasher or do the next chore around the house.

It’s always interesting to see what the guys are playing on the KFT, and this week certainly hasn’t disappointed so far, with some incredible wedge stamping on display.

It’s that sense of community that drives day-to-day interactions in the forums on topics that range from best driver to what marker you use to mark your ball. It even allows us to share another thing we all love – buying and selling equipment.

Currently, in our GolfWRX buy/sell/trade (BST) forum, @HuskerFlyer is sharing a Scotty Cameron GOLO with a BGT Stability Tour2 2022 M Edition shaft. While the putter is certainly enviable, the Augusta-inspired shaft is equally noteworthy.
