Tiger posts a new swing video and is “progressing nicely”
In what No Laying Up aptly called a “middle finger emoji to the world” on Twitter, Tiger Woods posted a video of himself making a full swing on a simulator, seemingly in response to recent reports.
Progressing nicely. pic.twitter.com/HKnnluR1OW
— Tiger Woods (@TigerWoods) February 24, 2016
And as the golf fanalysts pointed out, today’s date is visible on the screen. The video, coupled with Bob Harig’s piece quoting Woods’ agent, Mark Steinberg, seem to put to bed speculation that Woods is effectively a cripple.
Former Fox Sports columnist Robert Lusetich was the source of the seemingly erroneous report, as we indicated in a piece Monday.
Lusetich had tweeted “I’m told #TigerWoods condition worsened. He can’t move well; painful to sit. Sits in car with seat fully reclined. No forseeable return. Sad.”
And as we mentioned in that piece, the Secret Tour Pro had offered similar information over the weekend.
We can only hope that Lusetich, a veteran reporter recently out of a job, was “told” by someone other than STP/someone in Woods’ camp about the deterioration of the golfer’s condition before offering such a report.
When reached for comment on Lusetich/STP’s report, Woods’ agent told ESPN on Monday:
“The tweets that appeared this weekend about Tiger’s health are ridiculous and absolutely false. It’s reprehensible that every few months someone makes something up and it’s treated like a real story. Tiger continues to work on his rehabilitation and we will have an accurate update at the appropriate time.’‘
It appears now is that appropriate time, and the 40-year-old golfer is indeed “progressing nicely.”

It’s always interesting to see what the guys are playing on the KFT, and this week certainly hasn’t disappointed so far, with some incredible wedge stamping on display.

Dearest person who can speak to Tiger (with any kind of influence),
1. Thank him for everything he has done for the game, for the fans of the game, for those who enjoyed watch the greatness,…
2. No sideshows, please.
Warmest of regards,

Oh now the agent and Eldrick Hilton’s publicist team has to say that he’s been hitting drivers? Yeah? Where’s the video? And launch monitor numbers? What, has he been swinging his daughter’s driver?
When will this media blitz end? Why doesn’t Eldrick Hilton tell his team enough is enough, and speak up for himself? Doesn’t he get this whole output is just wasting his karma? Nobody in the entire world cares until he’s actually playing on the course in a Major tournament.

Actually people DO care based on the response to this article as compared to others that have been posted in recent weeks. And why wouldn’t they provide an update that denounces what some “secret tour pro” with a twitter account publishes without corroborating his “anonymous source?” Like it or not Tiger still moves the needle, he’s AT WORST the second greatest golfer of all time (and in some people’s minds he’s the best) and one of the world’s most recognizable athletes. You expect THE GOLF CHANNEL to not provide an update on one of, if not the most famous golfers? Come on.

All joking aside, this swing looks the same as when we last saw him, and I think it’s the reason for his back problems.
He’s so far inside coming down that he has to wrench his back to get through the ball. With a wedge it’s one thing. With a driver it’s another. He looks like someone standing in the front yard trying to hook the ball around the house into the back yard. When he was at his very best in the Butch Harmon days, it didn’t look like that.
I suggest he go see Harmon. Not Butch. Bill Harmon.
Many years ago Bill Harmon wrote a multi-piece series in Golf Illustrated on the “In and Over Swing.” Think Sam Snead or Hale Irwin. Two players who had long injury free careers. This is the change Tiger needs to make going forward.

I’d like him to be fit and pain free for a start, but that swing vid tells us nothing at all – is he aiming right or is he standing closed (with a wedge….) Is he on a pressure plate, if so why…. Why is he looking at the tv when the screen doesn’t change….. Why are there no other balls on the floor…. Even on my home setup I put soft flooring down to stop the ball bouncing around cos it’s very annoying….

I liike this motion too. It does seem to resemble his amateur swing but just a touch shorter. I hope he can play within his current bodies ability. If Zach Johnson, Mike Weir, and guys like that can win Majors, there is no reason Tiger can’t swing under control, approach his strategy a bit differsnt , and be a force to be reckoned with. He just needs to get in contention with some consistency and the game will be ultra exciting to watch. He’ll be the underdog and that will be another exciting possibility that should free him up.

The swing looks good, smooth takeaway and nice and balanced at the top.
Just shows you have to be careful what you read in the media, so much false information. You need to hear the truth straight from the person themselves.

It’s an interesting way to rebut rumors. Bu what about a straight-up interview with somebody?
It really isn’t about just one incident, with Steiney and Tiger. It’s years and years of terrible if not duplicitous press relations.
Jack Nicklaus never played such games with the press. And Jack went through a couple of near-catastrophic financial disasters.
Ben Hogan suffered a physical cataclysm worse than anything Tiger has seen, and he never engaged in such weirdness with the press.

Hope Tiger can find a smooth tempo to play with…hardest thing will be to kill off that sudden burst at the ball with hips firing a million miles an hour….Tiger needs to get a more smooth constant tempo like, hate to say it, John Daly or better still Ernie Ells.

I’m just glad that he’s healthy and can live a normal life. If he can return to playing golf and competing, well, that’s just icing on the cake. I just can’t understand why so many people can be so evil as to wish a fellow human being so much ill. Baffles me, really, but I still believe in humanity.

I wish Tiger the best but he has had a PR machine in play for several years that has made releases about him unreliable. This video looks good but he’s swinging a wedge indoors and this is a far cry from walking and playing tournament golf. Why not just give us a somewhat honest explanation about his current condition and what his team feels is a reasonable expectation for him returning to a regular practice regimen.

I’m pretty sure anyone that has bet on him not winning a Major, oh the past 7+ or so years has done pretty well… The game is in a really good place with the top players in it currently, so if Tiger is actually going to get back to the top, he’s got a bigger mountain to climb than ever before, all with a broken body and mind.

Feb 24, 2016 at 11:04 am
I actually like it because it’s more like his first swing and not so flat/rounded at the top. The club gets more vertical, and it looks like he could hit a draw no problem in this video. Granted it’s a short iron, and who knows if he’ll have that mega block move with the driver.

look at his feet relative to the camera angle and look at where the ball ends up (real ball not the simulated one). He is aimed right compared to the camera angle which makes the backswing look “too inside”
