Adam Scott Wins Qatar Masters

Adam Scott shot a phenomenal final round 61 to take the Commercial Bank Qatar Master presented by Dolphin Energy by 3 shots.

Post third round predictions of the winning score being -17 were torn up as Scott posted a score of -20 to win this competition for the second time in his career. Birdieing all five of the first five holes, Scott was out in 30. The magical 59 seemed possible when he then picked up birdies at 10, 11 and 12 with a fantastic display of ball striking but a missed putt at 16 and the decision to lay up on the par 5 18th meant that this was not to be.

This is only the second week that Scott has had a new set of irons in play. Having been almost the quintessential blade player, his move to a players cavity back iron has seen him reap almost immediate rewards with this victory likely to move Scott up around 3 places from 8th in the world top ten.

Henrik Stenson was the unlucky runner up, having shot 65 to still lose by 3 but the return to form for this competition’s 2006 winner can only be welcome in this Ryder Cup year. Other notable performances were by Charl Schwartzel, Johan Edfors, Lee Westwood and Colin Montgomerie. Schwartzel taking third place only weeks after his move from Callaway to Nike and Edfors taking forth indicating that the Swede is getting back to the form that saw him win 3 times in 2006. Lee Westwood’s fifth place puts him over 100,000 Euros ahead of Henrik Stenson in the European Order of Merit and Colin Montgomerie’s hunt for ranking points was done no harm with a sixth place as he looks to get back into the world top 50.
