PGA Tour this week: Turning Stone Resort Championship

The PGA Tour resumes its grind this week at the Turning Stone Resort Championship.

One week after Tiger Woods blazed the field and the Tour Championship and finishing first in the FedEx Cup, the tour starts its fall series. The tour will stop in New York once again at the Atunyote Golf Club, in Verona. This will be the first scheduled PGA Tour event held on American Indian lands, a great partnership that has lead the PGA Tour and Turning Stone to sign a six year agreement to host the event on these hollowed grounds. The Tom Fazio designed golf course will play at a par of 72, and a yardage of 7,490 yards. This week’s purse will be the strongest of the remaining 7 events, and will give some players the chance to make a more toward being in the top 125, or any of the other end of the year important numbers for various playing status requirements.

There is a quality field expected to play this week, including six tournament winners from the PGA Tour this year. Keep an eye out for Henrick Stenson, Fred Funk, Charley Hoffman, Steve Flesch, and Joe Ogilvie. This week will also mark Nick Flanagan’s first event since his “battlefield promotion” from the Nationwide Tour. Low Scores are prevalent at Turning Stone, so be on the look out for a shootout in New York. John Rollins, last year’s winner, and who is in the field to defend his crown, shot a final round 64 en route to his victory.

After an extended rest due to the FedEx Cup, look for the players this week to be regrouped and raring to go. Despite the lack of higher world ranked players, this week has the opportunity to still be an amazing tournament, with all of the drama surrounding the top 125 and all of the other plateaus that many players are shooting for, the golf is sure to be something incredible, and the scores should reflect that.
