Lexi Thompson signs extension with Cobra-Puma Golf

Published

on

18-year-old Lexi Thompson, who turned pro in 2010, has played some pretty decent golf as of late. If you’ve been entirely tuned out to what’s happening on LPGA Tour, she recently won her second LPGA Tour event of the season at the Lorena Ochoa Invitational. Thompson also finished third at the Evian Championship and notched seven top-10 finishes, in addition to winning more than $1.2 million in 2013.

Now, Cobra Puma Golf’s emerging LPGA Tour star is about to earn a little bit more.

The Carlsbad, Calif.-based company announced today that it is extending its partnership with the brand ambassador through “2014 and beyond.”

Really, this isn’t a surprise. Thompson could have failed to break 75 on tour this year and likely wouldn’t have been kicked to the curb heading into the upcoming season. She works well as a female counter to Rickie Fowler, the face of the brand on the PGA Tour. Still, the company has to be happy to lock the emerging talent down.

Thompson, like Fowler, has been willing to go above and beyond the traditional duties of wearing gear, using equipment and appearing in advertisements. Her social media channels are rife with references to Cobra-Puma and a significant percentage of shots feature the golfer draped in Puma garb.

Just yesterday the golfer posted this to her Instagram account:

At 15, Thompson was the first golfer to sign with the combined Cobra-Puma label. Bob Philion, president of Cobra Puma Golf said Thompson has been an instrumental global force for the company’s growth over the past three years.

“We are thrilled to continue our work with her in the coming years and watch her evolve as a world-class golfer and trend-setter on and off the course,” he said.

With the PGA Tour across the border in Canada this week, GolfWRX Tour Photographer Greg Moore stayed stateside and headed to the OccuNet Classic presented by Amarillo National Bank in Amarillo, Texas.

It’s always interesting to see what the guys are playing on the KFT, and this week certainly hasn’t disappointed so far, with some incredible wedge stamping on display.
