Tiger Woods and the too soft mattress

Published

on

Tiger Woods’ most fierce battle this week won’t be with his playing competitors, the course, or the legend of Jack Nicklaus — it will be with an overly cushioned hotel mattress. The first leg of the PGA Tour’s Playoffs, The Barclays at Liberty National, has yet to commence, and Woods has already added to his long list of physical ailments.

He woke up Wednesday morning with a stiff neck and back, citing a soft hotel mattress as the culprit.

“It was stiff this morning after a soft bed,” Woods said. “Just one of those things, sleeping in hotels and I didn’t want to push it, so just took it easy.”

He played only 9-holes in Wednesday’s Pro-Am, and chipped and putted during the other nine. The nagging neck and back injuries add to a recent elbow injury that plagued him throughout the U.S. Open and into the British Open. It remains to be seen whether health will play a factor in this week’s in Jersey City.

Last time the Tour stopped at Liberty National, Woods finished in second-place, and went on to claim his second FedExCup title.

“Any time you can add up and have the most points at the end of the year, it’s a pretty good year,” said Woods, when asked what a third title would mean.

This year, Woods heads into the Playoffs as a good bet to win the race for the title, with a commanding lead in points and five PGA Tour wins in 2013. He won the 2008 U.S. Open at Torrey Pines on one leg, but will need a better sleeping arrangement in order to prevail this week.

When asked if he got a new bed, he said, smiling, “What do you think?”

He played on the Hawaii Pacific University Men's Golf team and earned a Masters degree in Communications. He also played college golf at Rutgers University, where he graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Journalism.

I never mattress could really affect a game. But I think next time he should carry his own mattress. Just to be sure.

Dude! I know exactly what he means. If I get too soft of a mattress, my back is toast the next day.

And that soft mattress’s name is Lindsey Vonn. Eveyone has laid on her.

I see golfwrx selectively selects(edits)who one can write bad about. Like who has had adulterous affairs. OK to rip TW(Tiger Woods) but not this TW(Tome Watson)? Why not equal bad mouthing MOD? Please post so we all can read about, how you decide what posts get posted? Why is Tom Watson and Phil Mickelson such sacred cows? Wrong doing is wrong doing!

He flies in his own plane, it has room for a mattress I’m sure. Just bring one with…I’m sure the hotel will send someone to get it.

They already said yesterday that the room service replaced his mattress in his his room the night after he made the comments . If I was playing golf for 10million bucks I would sleep on whatever the heck I wanted

This is exactly why a bunch of touring pros have RVs that go with them from stop to stop.

Really guys??? From a guy with a picky back I have been through the same thing at hotels before and it’s even worse when you are there to play golf. This could happen to anyone. I believe the man. Also believe he picks up another W this week! Haters or not!

‘Tiger Woods and the too soft mattress’ – Sounds like a title for a film.

Next in the series – ‘Tiger Woods and the sugar-free popsicle’.

It’s because Lindsey wasn’t there to hold him.

With his money, he can just buy a new bed at each stop.

If Tiger pays me $60,000 a year plus business expenses I would gladly carry his personal mattress around from tournament to tournament lol.

With the PGA Tour across the border in Canada this week, GolfWRX Tour Photographer Greg Moore stayed stateside and headed to the OccuNet Classic presented by Amarillo National Bank in Amarillo, Texas.

It’s always interesting to see what the guys are playing on the KFT, and this week certainly hasn’t disappointed so far, with some incredible wedge stamping on display.
