GolfWRXer claims that these PXG irons are in ‘unicorn territory’
In our forums, our members have been reacting to a glowing review from a member over PXG’s 0317CB irons. WRXer ‘zlawson36’ goes in-depth in his love for the irons, saying:
“There are a few threads out there that mention how great the PXG 0317CBs are, but not a dedicated thread, so I decided to open one for folks to discuss their experience.
I had to have wrist surgery last season, and upon being cleared, I decided to get re-fit for clubs as my speed and dynamics have changed. I live in Lexington, KY, and there is a PXG store in Cincinnati, so I made the drive up to get fitted for fairway woods.
While I was there, we settled on fairway woods pretty quickly and had some time to kill, so I asked to try the new Gen 8 T heads as well as the 0317T and 0317CBs. Coming from i230s, the Gen 8 T heads looked fairly similar, but the 0317 lineups were definitely slimmer and slightly more intimidating to look down at.
I swing a 7-iron right around 80-83 mph. First swing with the CB gave me 116 mph ballspeed and 171 yards of carry (indoors, Trackman 4, RCT Pro V1). The spin was right around 5800 rpm and a decent angle of 47 degrees. Not to mention off the face it felt like the softest club I had ever hit. Next shot, more of the same, and again, and again. After 12 balls, I averaged 170 carry with this 33* 7 iron.
I ended up being fit into the CBs 6-GW and a 5 in the T head. KBS Tour 120S +1″ and 1* upright. I have had them on the course, and I am extremely happy with the turf interaction. My average yardages have jumped, and I have gained a new level of confidence in my iron game.
Gapping:
GW: 120
PW: 135
9i: 150
8: 160
7: 170
6: 183
5: 195
All I can say, is my iron search may finally be over. These are in unicorn territory for me. The honeymoon period is definitely real, but I haven’t felt this way about my iron play in a handful of years.”
And our members have been sharing their reaction to the review in response.
Here are a couple of posts from the thread, but make sure to check out the entire discussion and have your say at the link below.
- jblough99: “Had a set a few years ago, hands down the softest feeling irons I’ve ever played, and I use an X ball. Can’t imagine what it would be like with a low compression ball.”
- sheppy335: “Glad you got fitted and it is going well for you. I did the same thing this year and had the fitter check all lofts and lengths for me, I had lengths all over the place but the lofts were great and so was the shafts.”

Slab city on the Korn Ferry Tour — Lead Tape Report
This week, we have our Tour Photographer, Greg Moore, on the ground at the OccuNet Classic at Tascosa Golf Club in Amarillo, Texas, for the 14th event of the 2026 Korn Ferry Tour season. With that, we see some great things in the Lead Tape Report as we roll into Amarillo.
Joel Thelen
Monday Qualifier, Joel Thelen is in the field this week. He has played on the Korn Ferry Tour for a full season in 2023, and he is back in action this week. A couple of clubs caught my eye this week in his bag.
First off: His trusted Titleist 816 H2 hybrid. This club came out in October of 2015, and it still remains strong in the bag. Also, take a look at this Odyssey White Hot OG 7, putting a capital S in the 7S model. This custom neck has some impressive lean for an arm-lock-style putter. The bottom of the putter is covered in tape for optimal weighting.

Mitchell Meissner
Taking a look at Mitchell Meissner’s bag this week, we have some great lead tape coverage. Top to bottom working from fairway metals, irons, and wedges. We can see on the short irons and wedges that there is tape at the base of the grip, adding a little counterbalance. Along with that, some tape on the short irons and wedges as well. Moving to his putter, he rolls the Odyssey 7 Bird putter. Meissner putts left-handed and strikes the ball right-handed.
