Valspar Championship Lead Tape Report: Just a slab’ll do ya

Published

on

The Lead Tape Report returns for another installment, this time from the Valspar Championship.

Tyler Wilkes

Monday Qualifier Tyler Wilkes showcasing some lead tape on the driver, some irons, and wedges. Tyler shot 66 on Monday and battled the elements in Tampa. He turned pro in 2024, and the former University of Florida Gator is ready to let it rip this Thursday in his first PGA Tour event. Another thing you don’t see as much these days is the Lamkin Crossline Deep Etch Cord putter grip. A really retro touch in the modern era.

Ryo Hisatsune

A player who has been knocking on the door for a win and contending through the West Coast and Florida swing. I have just noticed a little glimpse of perhaps why, a little bit of tape to get the swing weight bumped up on his 60-degree wedge — actually 60.5-degree wedge. Hand stamp bonus on the wedge, too. Anything to add a little more trust in the game, and it’s definitely working for Ryo. He is currently 21st in the FedEx Cup with three top 10 and one top 5 finishes this year, while making 7 of 8 cuts.

Kevin Streelman

I noticed what appeared to a few extra clubs in the bag whether it be wedges or fairway metals, it is the driving iron that catches a spot this week in this week’s report. Looks like a decision has been made on which fairway woods to use or drop, while keeping the driving iron in the bag. Ball striking is number one at Valspar. Streelman is making his return to Innisbrook for the 15th time, and the 2013 Champion is back in the championship for the first time since 2024.

Wyndham Clark

Back again this week is Wyndham Clark, and what is this? A new putter! Appears to be completely custom as well. Keeping a center shaft theme from his LAB DF3 usage and from last week’s Bettanardi Antidote SB, he now has this Scotty Cameron custom hosel Newport 2-style putter. This has turned into a nice subplot for new gear in the bag. A spin of the wheel at the roulette table, and we have a putter we haven’t seen in Clark’s hands!

Patton Kizzire

This is Patton Kizzire’s first time on the Lead Tape Report, and I almost missed a key sighting; the stealth application almost got me here. What is a fairly traditional set in Patton’s bag, the 6-iron caught my eye. It has some tape on the back of the club to presumably add swing weight to match the other clubs in his iron set. The logo’d lead tape was a nice addition and almost had me miss it as it looks nearly stock.

Slab city on the Korn Ferry Tour — Lead Tape Report

Published

on

This week, we have our Tour Photographer, Greg Moore, on the ground at the OccuNet Classic at Tascosa Golf Club in Amarillo, Texas, for the 14th event of the 2026 Korn Ferry Tour season. With that, we see some great things in the Lead Tape Report as we roll into Amarillo.

Joel Thelen

Monday Qualifier, Joel Thelen is in the field this week. He has played on the Korn Ferry Tour for a full season in 2023, and he is back in action this week. A couple of clubs caught my eye this week in his bag.

First off: His trusted Titleist 816 H2 hybrid. This club came out in October of 2015, and it still remains strong in the bag. Also, take a look at this Odyssey White Hot OG 7, putting a capital S in the 7S model. This custom neck has some impressive lean for an arm-lock-style putter. The bottom of the putter is covered in tape for optimal weighting.

Mitchell Meissner

Taking a look at Mitchell Meissner’s bag this week, we have some great lead tape coverage. Top to bottom working from fairway metals, irons, and wedges. We can see on the short irons and wedges that there is tape at the base of the grip, adding a little counterbalance. Along with that, some tape on the short irons and wedges as well. Moving to his putter, he rolls the Odyssey 7 Bird putter. Meissner putts left-handed and strikes the ball right-handed.
