Spotted: TaylorMade Milled Grind Proto wedges

TaylorMade’s Milled Grind wedges have been considered some of the best in golf throughout their history. Personally, I feel like the MG4 that are currently out might be the best feeling version TaylorMade has released. Recently, social media went wild over an alleged “Milled Grind 5” wedge that leaked, but now, at the Memorial Tournament, a much different prototype has surfaced on tour. These wedges don’t say “Milled Grind 5” anywhere, and TaylorMade isn’t giving away any details yet, so we will have to wait a bit for more info.

TaylorMade looks like they are going back to forging some wedges, as these prototypes have the label on the hosel. Typically forged wedges have a softer feel and are very responsive on feel shots around the green. The famous Milled Grind soles that enable every wedge to be exactly the same, eliminating the variances from hand polishing, are there with some familiar grind options. My eye notices a little more rounded shape out on the toe of these prototype wedges compared to the very square look of the MG4. Shaping on the back of the wedges looks to be stepped in order to control the center of gravity. The look does remind us a little of the Titleist Vokey SM7 wedge.

The faces on the wedges look to have a different micro-milled pattern between the grooves than the current MG4 wedges. Most wedges out on tour are raw metal, no chrome plating, so it is hard to tell if these will have a raw face or not. TaylorMade has also added a couple of grooves to the face of the wedge, which look to be a touch thinner than the MG4 grooves. The toe and heel end of the grooves also have some taper to them instead of being a larger “U” shape.

Slab city on the Korn Ferry Tour — Lead Tape Report

This week, we have our Tour Photographer, Greg Moore, on the ground at the OccuNet Classic at Tascosa Golf Club in Amarillo, Texas, for the 14th event of the 2026 Korn Ferry Tour season. With that, we see some great things in the Lead Tape Report as we roll into Amarillo.

Joel Thelen

Monday Qualifier, Joel Thelen is in the field this week. He has played on the Korn Ferry Tour for a full season in 2023, and he is back in action this week. A couple of clubs caught my eye this week in his bag.

First off: His trusted Titleist 816 H2 hybrid. This club came out in October of 2015, and it still remains strong in the bag. Also, take a look at this Odyssey White Hot OG 7, putting a capital S in the 7S model. This custom neck has some impressive lean for an arm-lock-style putter. The bottom of the putter is covered in tape for optimal weighting.

Mitchell Meissner

Taking a look at Mitchell Meissner’s bag this week, we have some great lead tape coverage. Top to bottom working from fairway metals, irons, and wedges. We can see on the short irons and wedges that there is tape at the base of the grip, adding a little counterbalance. Along with that, some tape on the short irons and wedges as well. Moving to his putter, he rolls the Odyssey 7 Bird putter. Meissner putts left-handed and strikes the ball right-handed.
