Golf Gratitude: The Jordan Spieth Family Foundation exemplifies compassion in action

Published

on

Recently, Jordan Spieth and his wife, Annie, announced that they will welcome their third child to their young family later this year. As I read this announcement, I reflected on my personal experiences with the Spieths over the years. I can confidently say that they are among the kindest and most generous people I have ever encountered. Jordan’s rise to fame as a star on the PGA TOUR has allowed him to enjoy a wonderful life. As his fame grew, he and his close-knit family recognized that using his success to help others was a mission they wanted to prioritize in their lives.

In an age where philanthropy bridges gaps and uplifts communities, the Jordan Spieth Family Foundation (JSFF) exemplifies compassion and commitment. Founded by Jordan, the foundation manifests his commitment to leveraging success to effect substantial change in various societal spheres.

As the founder and Executive Director of the Little Linksters Association for Junior Golf Development, a youth golf nonprofit in Central Florida, I was blessed to be a past recipient of support from the JSFF on multiple occasions. That said, and upon reading about Annie and Jordan soon welcoming their third child, I felt compelled to share more about the Jordan Spieth Family Foundation.

A Mission Rooted in Love

Established in 2014, JSFF reflects Spieth’s deep-rooted values by providing support across four critical pillars: Special Needs Youth, Junior Golf, Military Support, and Pediatric Cancer. The foundation’s mission stems from Spieth’s personal experiences and passion for making an impactful difference.

Born out of an environment where family ties are cherished, Jordan’s younger sister, Ellie, born with special needs, profoundly influenced his outlook. Thus, supporting this community forms a cornerstone of the foundation’s endeavors. Ellie’s light continues to inspire as Jordan seeks to amplify joy and opportunities for special needs youth through tailored experiences and resources.

Empowering Special Needs Youth

The foundation’s work in special needs extends beyond monetary donations. By partnering with well-regarded organizations, JSFF funds programs that promote inclusion and enrich lives by providing platforms for interaction, education, and personal growth. The focus on uplifting these children is further reflected in grants aimed at organizations that offer adaptive sports programs, inclusive camps, and special education initiatives.

Fueling Dreams with Junior Golf

Jordan Spieth’s meteoric rise in professional golf fuels the foundation’s commitment to supporting young, aspiring golfers. The Junior Golf pillar aims to nurture talent by providing resources and opportunities that might otherwise remain inaccessible. Investments in junior golf tournaments, training facilities, and scholarships not only cultivate young talent but also instill life skills such as discipline, perseverance, and sportsmanship.

Honoring Heroes

The JSFF also extends its support to U.S. military personnel and their families. Recognizing the sacrifices these individuals make, the foundation funds organizations that offer comprehensive care, rehabilitation services, and job placement to veterans. By providing education and workforce integration resources, the foundation plays a critical role in ensuring these heroes and their families receive the support they deserve.

Battling Pediatric Cancer

Finally, pediatric cancer care remains a vital aspect of JSFF’s mission. The foundation provides funds to research institutions dedicated to finding a cure and organizations that offer family-centric support for those navigating the agonizing journey of a cancer diagnosis. By focusing on cutting-edge research and comprehensive patient care, the foundation supports medical advancements and provides hope and support to families in their time of need.

Celebrating Remarkable Impact

The accolades poured upon the Jordan Spieth Family Foundation are well-deserved. The foundation exemplifies how purpose-driven philanthropy can yield transformative outcomes by addressing a broad spectrum of societal needs. Jordan Spieth’s advocacy and philanthropy continue to resonate and inspire, proving that athletes have the power to foster change that extends far beyond the domains of their sporting arenas.

In a world filled with challenges, the Jordan Spieth Family Foundation shines as a symbol of generosity, embodying the spirit of giving with sincerity and purpose. As it continues its mission, the foundation not only transforms lives but also inspires others to take action, demonstrating that together, we can create a more inclusive and hopeful future for everyone.

I do indeed hope that Jordan is a good, compassionate and empathetic man.

It’s still a shame that we cannot fund things like Pediatric Cancer care and research without the “noblesse oblige”… It’s a tragic reflection on our culture and the state of humankind that smacking a little white ball around some grass can make you worth $120 Million at age 31, while the medial and scientific communities must beg for consideration…

You forgot the most important aspect: tax benefits.

AVL: My U.S. Amateur local qualifying experience

Published

This past Monday, I played in the U.S. Amateur local qualifier at Rock Creek Country Club in Portland, Oregon. A full tee sheet from 7:30 a.m. to 1:55 p.m., the top 11 scores would make it to the U.S. Amateur final qualifying.

I teed off at 10:48 a.m.. With the 7:30 am tee time, you can get a feel for the leaders’ pace, and they were off and running on the challenging setup at Rock Creek.

Getting to the highlight of the round on the par five 17th, a drive up the left side and 212 yards left to the front hole location. I took out a 5-iron with plans of middle of the green. The ball ended up 8 feet left of the hole, pin high. A slight downhill putt dropped in for an eagle 3 on the 17th. With the cut line looking to be anywhere from -2 to even par. This was the boost I had been waiting for all day.

With making par from the trees on 18, it was time to wait for a potential playoff with a posted score of one under par 71.

Three hours later, it was playoff time. 8 players for 6 spots. I made par on the playoff hole, which was good enough to advance to the U.S. Amateur final qualifying in July. USGA qualifiers sure deliver on all of the emotions in golf!
