Is Rory McIlroy about to make this significant equipment change?

Published

on

A major equipment change could be on the way for Rory McIlroy, after a WRXer spotted a tour ticket order for the Ulsterman this week at Riviera CC.

WRXer ‘Mburl549’ spotted TaylorMade’s director of sports marketing Chris Trott’s Instagram which shows McIlroy made a significant shaft order in California this week for True Temper’s Dynamic Gold X7 shafts.

McIlroy has been using Project X 7.0 shafts for years, and it’s as of yet unknown if the Irishman is testing different options or implementing a new strategy to try and break his winless streak.

True Temper’s DG X7 shafts are a heavier and stiffer shaft option that offer both low spin, and a lower trajectory.

In our forums our members have been speculating on the reason for the change, and whether or not they expect to see the new shafts in action this week at Riviera.

  • bladehunter: “Hmm. Looking for something smoother in same weight.     Probably drop peak height in short clubs a touch too.”
  • jil62: “Would be very surprised if this set was put in play this week. More likely it’s a set built up for him to test.”
  • desaille: “Pretty std specs. Love it.”
  • shoot4par: “He’s been play PX 7.0s since his Titleist days…. maybe just tinkering, its too early to speculate.”

I mean if they work for half of GolfWRX users, I’d say Rory stands a good chance with x7s.

What a sad individual you are. Nothing in this article has anything to do with Kuchar yet you labour the point over and over. You are so 2019. Move on and get a life.

Slab city on the Korn Ferry Tour — Lead Tape Report

Published

on

This week, we have our Tour Photographer, Greg Moore, on the ground at the OccuNet Classic at Tascosa Golf Club in Amarillo, Texas, for the 14th event of the 2026 Korn Ferry Tour season. With that, we see some great things in the Lead Tape Report as we roll into Amarillo.

Joel Thelen

Monday Qualifier, Joel Thelen is in the field this week. He has played on the Korn Ferry Tour for a full season in 2023, and he is back in action this week. A couple of clubs caught my eye this week in his bag.

First off: His trusted Titleist 816 H2 hybrid. This club came out in October of 2015, and it still remains strong in the bag. Also, take a look at this Odyssey White Hot OG 7, putting a capital S in the 7S model. This custom neck has some impressive lean for an arm-lock-style putter. The bottom of the putter is covered in tape for optimal weighting.

Mitchell Meissner

Taking a look at Mitchell Meissner’s bag this week, we have some great lead tape coverage. Top to bottom working from fairway metals, irons, and wedges. We can see on the short irons and wedges that there is tape at the base of the grip, adding a little counterbalance. Along with that, some tape on the short irons and wedges as well. Moving to his putter, he rolls the Odyssey 7 Bird putter. Meissner putts left-handed and strikes the ball right-handed.
