Forum Thread of the Day: “Tell me about your magic 3-wood”
Today’s Forum Thread of the Day comes from Valtiel who asks WRXers to talk about their “Stenson” 3-wood. Valtiel asks members to discuss all the small details and our members divulge everything which makes their 3-wood so special.
Here are a few posts from the thread but make sure to check out the entire discussion and have your say at the link below.
- Matty01984: “My 915Fd is never going anywhere! Played Golf for 20+ years and never had a three wood that I was completely comfortable with. Went for a time without and had a 5 wood in there instead but eventually came across the Fd. The crazy thing is that I never even hit it before buying it. Was at the point of being fed up with the 3 wood that I did have in the bag, had some vouchers on my account in the Pro Shop and thought why not. Probably the best decision that I have ever made without having really tested the club at all.”
- BloctonGolf11: “TaylorMade SLDR HL 17 degree with stock speeder 55 stiff flex shaft. Thing just goes for me when I remember to swing calm and correctly and let it do its thing. I am not a bomber by any means (Driver is 240-250), and I can put this off the deck 220 with regularity. I have always had a hate relationship with 3 woods, but I love this one.”
- tkwilliamson22: “Cobra Amp Cell 3 wood with the Fujikura Fuel 60. Had it since it came out and won’t buy a new one until this breaks or dies on me. Love it off the tee and off the deck.”
- Brizam: “I have a Tour Issue Taylormade M2 2016 model with a Kuro Kage XTS in it that I will cry if it ever breaks… It is my favorite club in my bag. I will let pretty much anyone hit anything in my bag except that club. It’s off-limits. I have so much confidence in it both from the tee box and the fairway. I don’t even window shop new 3 woods just in case she finds out and decides to start acting up.”
- DrawBias: “Very under the radar – Cobra King F6 (stock RedTie shaft) – now set to 15.5*. Had a session at Club Champion several months ago, and they couldn’t fit me in anything close to being better.”

Slab city on the Korn Ferry Tour — Lead Tape Report
This week, we have our Tour Photographer, Greg Moore, on the ground at the OccuNet Classic at Tascosa Golf Club in Amarillo, Texas, for the 14th event of the 2026 Korn Ferry Tour season. With that, we see some great things in the Lead Tape Report as we roll into Amarillo.
Joel Thelen
Monday Qualifier, Joel Thelen is in the field this week. He has played on the Korn Ferry Tour for a full season in 2023, and he is back in action this week. A couple of clubs caught my eye this week in his bag.
First off: His trusted Titleist 816 H2 hybrid. This club came out in October of 2015, and it still remains strong in the bag. Also, take a look at this Odyssey White Hot OG 7, putting a capital S in the 7S model. This custom neck has some impressive lean for an arm-lock-style putter. The bottom of the putter is covered in tape for optimal weighting.

Mitchell Meissner
Taking a look at Mitchell Meissner’s bag this week, we have some great lead tape coverage. Top to bottom working from fairway metals, irons, and wedges. We can see on the short irons and wedges that there is tape at the base of the grip, adding a little counterbalance. Along with that, some tape on the short irons and wedges as well. Moving to his putter, he rolls the Odyssey 7 Bird putter. Meissner putts left-handed and strikes the ball right-handed.

My trusty Stenson 3 wood is actually a 16 degree 4 wood, an old Sonartec SS-07 with an Oban Devotion shaft. Unless it cracks in half, it’ll never come out of my bag.

Got an Epic gbb 3+ 13.5 deg with a Fuji 757 speeder x. Found the shaft in a R510 TP driver head in the used barrel. Pulled the shaft tipped it for a 3wd, cut it to 43”. I’m pretty long so I hit it as often or slightly more than the driver of the tee. The club is so long that it made me dump my 3i for an 18 deg utility iron because I had a 30-40yrd gap.

For years, my ‘07 TaylorMade Burner 3 wood may have been the love of my life. Sadly, my playing partner had a very similar set up in his bag. One tragic day he unfortunately/accidentally pulled my 3 wood. He set up to play cut, but was somehow unaware how close he was to the tee marker. With him being a scratch golfer, I thought it best I not say anything. Tragically, I was proved wrong and that was the end of my prized possession. Of course he attempted to replace the club, but none felt the same. Man, I could hit so many different kinds of shots with that club. No club has come even remotely close ever since that apocalyptic day!

I used to hate carrying a 3 wood to the point until I met my Ronald McDonald Cobra F9 3 wood. That this is ridiculously easy to hit off the deck and off the tee.
