Mark Crossfield tests Callaway GBB Epic Sub Zero driver against TaylorMade M1 460
In this video, I do an on-course test as well as a launch monitor test to show you the differences between two of the hottest drivers of 2017: Callaway’s GBB Epic Sub Zero and TaylorMade’s M1 460 for 2017.
Post your comments and tell me what driver you would go for and why. The Epic Sub Zero does just edge the M1 460 in the numbers, but it’s a close one.

AVL: My U.S. Amateur local qualifying experience
This past Monday, I played in the U.S. Amateur local qualifier at Rock Creek Country Club in Portland, Oregon. A full tee sheet from 7:30 a.m. to 1:55 p.m., the top 11 scores would make it to the U.S. Amateur final qualifying.
I teed off at 10:48 a.m.. With the 7:30 am tee time, you can get a feel for the leaders’ pace, and they were off and running on the challenging setup at Rock Creek.

Getting to the highlight of the round on the par five 17th, a drive up the left side and 212 yards left to the front hole location. I took out a 5-iron with plans of middle of the green. The ball ended up 8 feet left of the hole, pin high. A slight downhill putt dropped in for an eagle 3 on the 17th. With the cut line looking to be anywhere from -2 to even par. This was the boost I had been waiting for all day.
With making par from the trees on 18, it was time to wait for a potential playoff with a posted score of one under par 71.
Three hours later, it was playoff time. 8 players for 6 spots. I made par on the playoff hole, which was good enough to advance to the U.S. Amateur final qualifying in July. USGA qualifiers sure deliver on all of the emotions in golf!

Bought an epic 10.5 driver with fuji stiff. Time to bite the bullet and upgrade, as my reliable x2hot 3 wood goes as far as my old 910d2. The epic is an excellent driver. Note. the carbon crown is very light so if you’re just starting out perhaps look elsewhere. Only one round in and I think this could be in my bag for a long time.

Would love to see Mark do a comparison between the driver he used 5-7 years ago (in some of his old videos), with the subzero or M1, I bet there would be very little difference.

My only complaints with the SZ is the lack of left to right adjustment. The m1 has that. Last year’s 816 dbd has an amount of left to right adjustment and Zach showed that the SZ and the DBD were almost identical numbers. So, is the SZ actually a step back from the DBD? I love my dbd, best driver I’ve ever owned. I just don’t know if I am seeing 500 with of “better”. Maybe the m1 with more adjustability is actually the better choice of upgrade from dbd for this year?

If you decide to give the M1 a try, pick up the previous version. Lots of testers have claimed it’s longer than the new one, and you’ll save some $$$ in the process.

Sub zero has a bit of a weird tingy sound after the hit, not sure if anyone else noticed that. I’ll probably end up going with the new Taylormade stuff.

Yes, take the two out and field test them on the course. The store won’t mind at all taking one them back after you played a few rounds with it. They’ll even give you full refund! (sigh)

The aerial view of all the shots were from the fairway back, not from the tee box forward.

A good, straightforward review which tells us that they are both very good golf clubs. Mind you, all drivers from all brands today are extremely good and I don ‘t believe there is much difference between any of them.

Sounded like he liked all of the hits and the M2 was much more eratic. Of course you have to hit more then 3 balls on one hole though…
