I guess there is a reason why LPGA bags are not posted as often. It simply hurts the guys’ ego. The fact is, however, for “very good” players pros and amateurs alike, flexes are more of a preference – mostly the feel/timing and the tendency of the shot/trajectory. In Gee or that junior lady pro will whoop our arse whether she uses the X-flex or L-flex clubs (and us with the professionally fitted whatever flex clubs) every single time anyway. The scorecards actually matter more for the pros who make a living out of golf and not as much for a lot of us. We the regular Joes have the special privilege to enjoy whatever the heck we like. Not all Porsche owners are certified auto mechanics.

KK – why are you buying other than the R flex clubs from off-the-shelf? About 80% of store stock is R flex, so how are “we” ending up with stiffer? It is simply not true.

Because not all R flexes are created equal in flex or weight. It is true and you are simply wrong. Good try, though.

A wundervoll swing and a great bag setup that should be an example for most amateurs

Most male golfers don’t have as strong a swing as Chun and yet our off-the-shelf stuff is heavier and stiffer. No wonder we struggle with anything longer than a 7 iron.

SO true! My golf pro actually said most male weekend golfers would achieve more if they would compare themselves more with LPGA players instead of PGA. To prove this point he invited a junior (under 18) ladies golfer that plays in events here in Europe to play a round with us. Everything in her bag was R shaft, highest iron was actually a 6 iron, only her woods were stiff. Her average drives were 200m ( 220 yds). That day we played the guys that usually averaged 240 (265 yds off teh tee) or so they always claimed some how were averaging just around 200/210 m(220 – 230yds) dont know why could have been the wind or nervousness.

Anyway to cut to the chase though she was hitting second most of the time, she finished 67 (-3) on a course she never saw before. Average score for the guys with S and X flex irons was around 85 (+15). Her game management was tops, putting was v.good and short game was also good.

When we got the clubhouse she made a quote I will never forget. When you get the course record and they hang your scorecard, its never noted the clubs you used, the shaft or the farthest drive………..just the score. Thats all that matters.

Slab city on the Korn Ferry Tour — Lead Tape Report

Published

on

This week, we have our Tour Photographer, Greg Moore, on the ground at the OccuNet Classic at Tascosa Golf Club in Amarillo, Texas, for the 14th event of the 2026 Korn Ferry Tour season. With that, we see some great things in the Lead Tape Report as we roll into Amarillo.

Joel Thelen

Monday Qualifier, Joel Thelen is in the field this week. He has played on the Korn Ferry Tour for a full season in 2023, and he is back in action this week. A couple of clubs caught my eye this week in his bag.

First off: His trusted Titleist 816 H2 hybrid. This club came out in October of 2015, and it still remains strong in the bag. Also, take a look at this Odyssey White Hot OG 7, putting a capital S in the 7S model. This custom neck has some impressive lean for an arm-lock-style putter. The bottom of the putter is covered in tape for optimal weighting.

Mitchell Meissner

Taking a look at Mitchell Meissner’s bag this week, we have some great lead tape coverage. Top to bottom working from fairway metals, irons, and wedges. We can see on the short irons and wedges that there is tape at the base of the grip, adding a little counterbalance. Along with that, some tape on the short irons and wedges as well. Moving to his putter, he rolls the Odyssey 7 Bird putter. Meissner putts left-handed and strikes the ball right-handed.
