Spotted: Callaway XR 16 Sub Zero
A new driver from Callaway, called the XR 16 “Sub Zero,” recently appeared on the USGA’s List of Conforming Clubs. Here’s how it looked in black-and-white.
And here’s how it looks in color.
We spotted Callaway’s new Sub Zero driver (8.5 degrees) in the bag of Jason Gore at the 2016 CareerBuilder Challenge.

In his own words, here’s why Gore switched from Callaway’s Double Black Diamond into the XR 16 Sub Zero.
As part of a GolfWRX giveaway, Gore answered questions from our community about his current bag setup, thoughts about the PGA Tour, and other random questions — like has he ever shotgunned a beer and who’s the funniest guy on Tour. Read Gore’s entire Q&A with the GolfWRX community here.
Check out more photos of the driver in the gallery below.

Slab city on the Korn Ferry Tour — Lead Tape Report
This week, we have our Tour Photographer, Greg Moore, on the ground at the OccuNet Classic at Tascosa Golf Club in Amarillo, Texas, for the 14th event of the 2026 Korn Ferry Tour season. With that, we see some great things in the Lead Tape Report as we roll into Amarillo.
Joel Thelen
Monday Qualifier, Joel Thelen is in the field this week. He has played on the Korn Ferry Tour for a full season in 2023, and he is back in action this week. A couple of clubs caught my eye this week in his bag.
First off: His trusted Titleist 816 H2 hybrid. This club came out in October of 2015, and it still remains strong in the bag. Also, take a look at this Odyssey White Hot OG 7, putting a capital S in the 7S model. This custom neck has some impressive lean for an arm-lock-style putter. The bottom of the putter is covered in tape for optimal weighting.

Mitchell Meissner
Taking a look at Mitchell Meissner’s bag this week, we have some great lead tape coverage. Top to bottom working from fairway metals, irons, and wedges. We can see on the short irons and wedges that there is tape at the base of the grip, adding a little counterbalance. Along with that, some tape on the short irons and wedges as well. Moving to his putter, he rolls the Odyssey 7 Bird putter. Meissner putts left-handed and strikes the ball right-handed.

Callaway is garbage, just like TSHWAG. How do you leave PING for Callaway?

Ah. That’s the driver I was wondering about. What’s the retail price?

I thought that Jason switched because he started hitting the new XR16 Subzero 18 yards farther. (I note it wasn’t a direct quote from Jason so there’s no need to impugn Jason’s credibility.)
“Confidence” is as much of a benefit as any launch monitor numbers, and often enough “confidence” produces better numbers. A great-looking driver is a good way to build confidence; and I’m not sure that there is a better-looking head shape at address coming out this year. Could there be a more classic-appearing driver this year?
I am going to watch anxiously to see what numbers reviewers get with this driver when they can get on a launch monitor. It is a spectacularly good-looking driver. I think I have been waiting five years for a great new driver head with classic dark paint and a plain stainless face. It is what a driver should look like.
