Justin Rose to miss start of 2014 season

Published

A right shoulder injury will keep Justin Rose out of action for the next month, and has resulted in Rose altering his schedule to start the 2014 season.

The reigning U.S. Open champion is battling tendinitis, and has decided to miss two significant January events in a bid to regain full health with the long term in mind.

Though not deemed serious, the shoulder injury will keep Rose out of both the Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship and the Farmers Insurance Open at Torrey Pines. Following his triumph at Merion in June of last year, Rose had a busy close to the 2013 season with stops in South Africa, China, Thailand, Dubai and Turkey.

Rose’s agent, Mark Steinberg, stated on Friday that Rose should be ready for February if no setbacks occur. Steinberg said that the injury was “…more nagging than anything else,” and that doctors suggested this period of rest.

Rose, who at one point played in five countries in a seven-week span, is going to make an effort to schedule several breaks in 2014, particularly during the heart of the season. Rose, who starts 2014 as the No. 4-ranked player in the world, holds cards on both the PGA and European tours, thus leading to his full schedule throughout the calendar year.

He is enrolled at university in Canada, studying history and political science, though he links those to the history or politics of golf at any opportunity. He once started a round going birdie, par, birdie, and probably should have walked off the course then.

hopefully it’s flat tracks cause if you haven’t snowmobiled before it’s pretty hard on the shoulders and chest.

      Hey JB,

      Thanks for the comment.

Interesting photos of Rose out in Aspen from last week. I’m not sure if he was snowmobiling on flat routes or not, but one of his pictures was tagged as ‘plenty of fun to be had without skiing’. Perhaps an easy snowmobile ride couldn’t be as potentially damaging to an injured shoulder as downhill skiing.

With the PGA Tour across the border in Canada this week, GolfWRX Tour Photographer Greg Moore stayed stateside and headed to the OccuNet Classic presented by Amarillo National Bank in Amarillo, Texas.

It’s always interesting to see what the guys are playing on the KFT, and this week certainly hasn’t disappointed so far, with some incredible wedge stamping on display.
